Liverpool were in beast mode today. They were unplayable when the players combined, and the final scoreline reflects their dominance. Firmino gave the home side the lead in the 13th minute. The advantage was then doubled on the half hour mark by Sadio Mane. A poor touch and lack of concentration from Lucas allowed Jamie Vardy to pull one back for the visitors in the 38th minute. Adam Lallana restored Liverpool's two-goal lead with a sweet strike five minutes short of the hour mark, and the Firmino hit the back of the net again at the death of the game to complete the emphatic victory.
90+5' And that's the full-time whistle. Liverpool were absolutely glorious to watch today. When they find their confidence and play the quick, intricate football that they can, they look unstoppable and hugely entertaining. A well-deserved three points in their first home game of the season. Klopp will be quite pleased with what he saw today, and will hope to replicate that over the course of the season. Ranieri won't have quite so much to smile about. Leicester were barely ever in the game, barring that moment of madness from Lucas. The defending champions looked rather out of their depth, and really need to do better in the upcoming games if they are to mount anything resembling a title defence.
90+3' Alberto Moreno comes on for Sadio Mane, who gets a rousing standing ovation at the end of his home debut from the Anfield faithful.
90+1' The ref has added five minutes of time to be played.
90' Another goal! Henderson played a wonderful through ball to Mane. Schmeichel charged way too early and made it almost to the half line, where Mane easily cut past him. He played a simple ball through to Firmino, who tapped it into an open net. 4-1.
89' The Anfield crowd have found their voices again, as they chant their club's name in a show of appreciation of the display that was put on for them.
87' Liverpool have been an absolute pleasure to watch in this game. More beautiful football as they build another attack. The chance fell to Mane in the end, but Schmeichel was up to the challenge.
86' Play carries on.
85' Another break in play as Simon Mignolet's face is bleeding again. The stopper has certainly picked up a few battle scars in this game.
83' Robert Huth has his name taken into the ref's book for a challenge on Lucas in the air.
79' Lovely football from Liverpool. Firmino broke through Leicester's defence and pulled the ball back to play a great ball to Henderson. He was completely unmarked, but he completely messed up the shot, sending it miles high. Wasted chance. That should've hit the back of the net.
77' Tough luck for Mane. He was through one on one against the keeper, but was incorrectly flagged offside by the linesman. It was a difficult decision, but the official made the wrong one.
77' Double substitution for Liverpool. Coutinho and Kevin Stewart come into the fray to replace Wijnaldum and Sturridge.
74' Liverpool have the upper hand again. Since regaining their two-goal cushion, they've looked more assured and comfortable. Still the odd momentary lapse in concentration that's typical of Liverpool, though.
70' Liverpool looked like they were on a great break with Wijnaldum racing Schmeichel to a loose ball, but the move is cut out because Daniel Sturridge was called offside.
66' Albrighton makes his way off the pitch for Ulloa. Ranieri clearly intends to chase this game with everything he has. That's his last change of the game.
65' Liverpool are happy to keep possession by stringing simple passes together. Nothing too threatening or risky, just looking to keep things calm for a while.
61' Brilliant save by Mignolet! Vardy beat his defenders with raw pace and surged powerfully into the box, but Mignolet timed his charge perfectly to deny the striker's shot.
57' Goal for Lallana! Wijnaldum showed some strength to hold defenders off outside the box, before playing a sweet pass through to Lallana. The Englishman unleashed a mean first-time strike to bury the ball in the top left corner. Schmeichel never had a chance with that shot. What a screamer!
51' Mignolet is ready to carry on, and play continues.
49' Mignolet had a clashing of heads with Huth, but the keeper has come off worse. He's bleeding somewhat profusely from his nose and in his mouth, and is currently receiving medical attention.
47' That change at the break means that Ranieri has only one substitute available for the remainder of the game, having used up two already.
46' Claudio Ranieri has made a change at half-time. Ahmed Musa has replaced Shinji Okazaki.
45' We're back for the second half. Leicester City get us underway from kick-off as they look to turn this game around in the next 45 minutes. The ref blows his whistle, and Liverpool get the second half underway.
45+2' The ref blows his whistle to bring a close to the first half. Liverpool go into the break with a lead, but they have kept Leicester alive and very much in the game with that gift of a goal. Barring that moment of insanity from Lucas, Jurgen Klopp will be delighted by what he's seen so far. At times Liverpool were playing with supreme confidence and swagger, and when that happened, Leicester couldn't get anywhere near the ball. Claudio Ranieri won't be too happy with what he's seen from his side so far, but there's still an entire half to turn the game around in. This is a great set-up for the second half.
45+1' The fourth official has indicated that there will be two minutes of added time.
45' The ball into the box was easily headed out by Matip. No danger.
44' Henderson has been booked for sticking a leg out behind Drinkwater. Free-kick to Leicester.
43' After conceding that silly goal, the feel of the game has changed. From being absolutely dominant and full of swagger, Liverpool suddenly look shaky and unsure every time they have the ball around their own box.
41' Nearly an equaliser for the Foxes! Vardy whipped the ball in from the corner. Mignolet came forward to take it, but Huth got there first. His header had the keeper beaten, but it went out off the top of the crossbar.
39' Goal for Leicester. Mignolet played a simple pass to Lucas, who had an absolutely terrible touch. Vardy pounced on the poorly controlled ball and blasted into an open net. A simpler goal he will never score. Pathetic from Lucas. Good poaching by Vardy.
37' Another good chance, and another wasted long shot from Wijnaldum. Liverpool are really finding their groove now.
33' Danny Simpson comes off for Luis Hernandez. Simpson appears to have picked up a knock at some point, and he is unfortunately unable to carry on.
33' Goal! 2-0 to Liverpool. Mane doubles the advantage for the Reds. Sturridge picked up a long ball and ran into the box, dragging his marker with him. He then cleverly picked out Mane in the box with a cheeky backheel, and Mane made no mistake to convert the chance.
31' It's wave after wave of attack from the Reds, much to the delight of the home fans. Leicester have all 11 men in their own half, as Liverpool have dominated possession over the last 15 minutes.
28' Yellow card for Daniel Amartey, as the Leicester man stuck his boot out for a bit of a late challenge.
26' Sturridge should've made it 2-0! Liverpool put on some slick quick passing in the move. Mane picked out Sturridge in front of the face of goal. The Englishman tried to beat the keeper from point-blank range, but Schmeichel bravely stood his ground to deny the goal.
23' Another speculative shot from distance, this time from Wijnaldum. Mane and Clyne showed some good link-up play to set up the attack. Clyne found Wijnaldum outside the box, but his shot wasn't hit with enough venom to test Schmeichel.
20' Corner to Leicester. Mahrez whips the ball in and Lucas gets to it first to head it away. The ball falls to Okazaki who takes a shot, but he was called offside.
18' The game is being fought out in midfield now, with neither side really able to penetrate deep into the opposition half.
