MUM vs HYD Match Result - ISL 2019-20
Mumbai City
2 - 1
M. Sougou 6'
M. Sougou 78'
81' Bobô
Thank you for tuning into the live commentary of the last match of the year. My name is Mohak Arora and it was a delight bringing the latest updates from the match. HAPPY NEW YEAR to each and everyone of you.
A brace from Modou Sougou takes Mumbai over the line literally as they overtake Jamshedpur FC and now sit behind Bengaluru FC just on goal difference. A goal from Bobo proved only to be consolation as Hyderabad FC suffered their seventh defeat of the season.
90+6' Marcelinho cuts in and shoots, Amrinder again palms it straight to a man in yellow but Robin Singh shoots it over the bar.
90+4' The ball hits the back of the net! Bobo chests the ball down in the 18-yard box, turns and shoots, Amrinder gets a hand to it and Kilgallon is on point to hit it in the back of the net but the assistant referee raises his flag to signal offside. So close for Hyderabad, so close!
90' The fourth official adds six minutes on the clock. Everything to play for in the next few minutes!
88' The resulting corner find Kilgallon but Amrinder swallows the ball in his arms.
86' A long ball from Asish Rai finds Marcelinho at the back post who lofts the ball up in the air and Bobo's header is saved by Amrinder Singh who injures himself in the process of making that save.
84' Slick passing move finds Bobo through on goal but he places his shot just wide off the goal. That makes it 11 shots off target for Hyderabad in the second half with only 2 shots on target.
81' GAME BACK ON?? Bobo scores. The excellent Asish Rai crosses with his weaker left foot and Bobo's deft touch is deflected into the back of the net tricking Amrinder Singh.
78' GOAAAAALL!! It's done and dusted for sure now. A wonderful through ball from Bidyananda finds Sougou who caught the goalkeeper off the line and chipped Kamaljit, the ball crossed the line and that seals the match.
77' Diego Carlos makes a great solo run and is pushed inside the penalty box by Gurtej SIngh. No foul given by the referee and Carlos is shown a yellow card for contempt.
75' Sourav Das now goes down on the pitch. A stretcher comes out to take him back to the dressing room. The 19-year old Valpuia from Aizawl comes on to replace the midfielder.
70' Costa reacts to the red card as Serge Kevyn is replaced by the experienced Souvik Chakravarti. Mumbai shutting shop? Kevyn also shown a yellow card for taking too much time to go off the pitch.
68' Sarthak Golui fouls Marcelinho and the Brazilian makes the most of the tackle and flies and falls down in a heap forcing the referee to show a second yellow card to Golui and the home side are down to 10 men, not for the first time this season.
66' Marcelinho hits the post!! The Hyderabad No. 10 darts down the left wing and curls his shot towards the far post and hits the upright, Amrinder Singh sighs with relief.
62' Brown makes his third and last change of the match with Marko Stankovic replacing the ineffective Giles Barnes.
58' A half-time change that skipped our eyes, Rohit Kumar was replaced by Shankar Sampingraj. The substitute is now feeling some pain and is forced off with Robin Singh coming in for him. He lasted only 12 minutes on the pitch, not what Hyderabad wants right now definitely.
57' Jorge Costa makes his first change of the night as Raynier Fernandes is forced off the pitch due to an injury. Bidyananda Singh comes on in his place.
52' A Hyderabad free kick launched right into the opposition penalty area finds Adil Khan at the back post and the holding midfielder strikes the post, Pratik Chaduhari in an attempt to clear it, hits it towards the goal but Matthew Kilgallon stops a potential goal for his own side. Truly a mess! Don't think any coach would be happy with this performance.
51' A slow start to the second half. Couple of fouls not allowing the play to build-up, Hyderabad FC need to up the tempo or the home side might walk away with the three points.
46' The home side start the second half. They are in command, just need to repeat the first half performance.
HALF TIME! Mumbai CIty FC 1-0 Hyderabad FC
The Islanders would be fuming to get only one goal in the first half in which they were clearly the dominant side. Phil Brown needs to change something to affect this match in any manner. As of now, the home side leads via a Modou Sougou goal and they go fourth in the league table as things stand.
45' Two minutes added by the fourth official. The Islanders would like to go into half time with their slim lead intact.
41' CLEARED OFF THE LINE THRICE!! A Diego Carlos corner found Mato Grgic whose header was cleared at the post by Asish Rai and Sougou's shot beat Kamaljit but Asish rose to the occasion and cleared it again off the line with the mess being cleared in the end. No goal somehow!
35' Sougou found Serge Kevyn with a defense-splitting pass and the Gabonese decided to go in himself selfishly instead of squaring it to the unmarked Carlos who could have tapped it in from 2 or 3 yards out, Kamaljit saves, chance gone.
33' Another couple of missed chances for Hyderabad due to individual errors. Phil Brown would be expecting a better showing from his team in the remaining one hour.
25' Sarthak Golui has elbowed Nestor Gordillo in the face and the referee rightly shows the yellow card to the offender. Golui misses the next match due to suspension as he picks his fourth yellow card of the campaign.
23' Mumbai fail to clear from a corner and the ball comes in back for Bobo who is standing on the edge of the six-yard box but the Hyderabad No.9 failed to get over the ball and heads it over the target.
19' Diego Carlos wins a free kick on the left and Larbi takes it short for the unmarked Carlos but the 26-year old misses another chance on the night.
16' Slick passing from Serge Kevyn, Carlos and Sougou set-up Sourav Das for a shot but the midfielder puts the ball in the stands.
14' Asish Rai puts an inviting cross and Bobo gets his head to it but the accuracy is missing and goal kick is given.
9' A move made from the right wing this time around, Kevyn heads it down and finds Carlos but the Brazilian's shot is saved by the Hyderabad goalkeeper.
6' Modou Sougou scores!!!!! A great move down the left stringed together by Subhasish Bose as the left-back puts a through ball for Carlos to chase and the left winger runs down the left wing, cuts in and delivers a ball across the penalty area finding Sougou who calmly slots the ball past the goalkeeper for his first goal of the season.
2' After a Kamaljit Singh save from a Diego Carlos shot, Marcelinho puts a through ball that finds Bobo and the striker's shot is deflected behind but the referee signals for a goal kick. Exciting start to the match!
1' Mumbai players are clad in their blue home kits while the visiting team is wearing yellow kits. Hyderabad kick off!
The seats are slowly getting filled up, both the teams have walked out on the pitch and we will be having the kickoff soon after the national anthem.
Historically, Pune City FC have a better head to head record against Mumbai City FC with the Islanders winning just 3 out of 10 matches as Pune won 6 drawing the remaining solitary fixture. Let's see if Hyderabad FC can take the baton and cross the line successfully.
Avoiding defeat tonight would see Mumbai City FC climb up into the top four of the league standings while a win would take their points total on par with Bengaluru FC.
A win or a draw would be invaluable for the Hyderabad FC side as they have not even picked a single point on their travels this season.
Who will be ending their year on a high at the Mumbai Football Arena?
Paulo Machado is expected to be out for several weeks while Rowlin Borges also misses out today due to minor injury. Amine Chermiti is only fit enough for the bench. Phil Brown has a fully fit squad at his disposal and would be expecting Bobo to be the main main tonight.
Line-ups are out
Mumbai City FC:
Amrinder Singh, Sarthak Golui, Pratik Chaudhari, Mato Grgic, Subhasish Bose, Raynier Fernandes, Sourav Das, Serge Kevyn Mohamed Larbi, Diego Carlos, Modou Sougou
Hyderabad FC: Kamaljit Singh, Asish Rai, Matthew Kilgallon, Gurtej Singh, Nikhil Poojary, Adil Khan, Rohit Kumar, Nestor Gordillo, Giles Barnes, Marcelinho, Bobo
Today, Mumbai CIty FC are at home and Costa would be hoping for a change in fortunes as they have conceded nine goals in three matches at home this season. Things might fall in place for Mumbai, as Phil Brown's Hyderabad have failed to pick a single point in their four away matches conceding 13 goals, the worst defensive record on road in ISL 2019/20.
Mumbai City FC: A curious case of poor home form and an unbeaten away record, Jorge Costa's side has done well enough despite their long injury list which includes a lot of players that can turn a match on its head. The Islanders have failed to win a single home game, drawing one and losing the other two. On the road, it's a completely different story as they have won three and drawn the other three matches maintaining an unbeaten away record.
Hyderabad FC:
There has been no such thing as beginners' luck for Hyderabad FC as they have lost six of their first nine matches in the league, drawing two and winning a solitary fixture against Eelco Schattorie's misfiring Kerala Blasters.
Welcome to the live commentary of the last Indian Super League match of the year and of the decade that saw ISL become a household name in the country. Mumbai City FC will be facing Hyderabad FC at the Mumbai Football Arena.
