NOR vs BEN Match Result - ISL 2019-20
NorthEast United
0 - 2
68' S. Chhetri (P)
80' Albert Serrán
That's it. An insipid display from NorthEast United ends with them losing 0-2 to Bengaluru FC, who now move to the top of the table. Sunil Chhetri gave the visitors the lead through a penalty before Albert Serran put the game to bed with his towering header after connecting a cross from Erik Paartalu. Here is Abhishek Kundu saying good bye on behalf of all of us. Do stay tuned to Sportskeeda to get the latest ISL and Indian Football news.
90+6' Gallego takes the corner-kick to the far post and a NorthEast United FC player tries to nudge it at the near post but seeing no NorthEast United player getting at the end of it, the referee blows his final whistle.
90+5' Meetei wins a corner after his cross is intercepted by Nishu Kumar.
90+4' Triadis swings an inswinging free-kick but Serran rises above everyone to head the ball home.
90+3' Ninthoinganba wins a free-kick near the byline after Nishu Kumar body checked him. This should be the last kick of the ball.
90+2' Juanan has been adjudged the Hero of the Match for his commanding display in orchestrating the defense.
90+1' Bengaluru FC make their final change.

OFF- Sunil Chhetri
ON- Gursimrat Singh Gill
Four Minutes have been added on.
90' Sunil Chhetri weasels past three NorthEast United FC defenders and he gives the ball to Suresh Wangjam on the far side. But, he is cornered by Provat Lakra and his feeble effort is collected comfortably by Subhasish Roy Chowdhury.
89' Bengaluru have fallen flat to a 5-4-1 formation with Semboi Haokip the lone man upfront. Triadis takes a shot from distance trying to test Gurpreet. But, he passes it with flying colours and collects the ball.
86' There is a clash of heads between Gallego and Serran. The Uruguayan is desperate for a goal after he found the back of the net twice in last season against Bengaluru FC.
85' Reagan Singh surges forward but his attempted cross is intercepted by Nishu Kumar.
84' CHANCE! On the counter, Sunil Chhetri releases Semboi Haokip but the goalkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury gets at the end of it first and collects it.
83' Bengaluru FC makes their second change. The Flash is coming off.

OFF- Udanta Singh
ON- Suresh Singh Wangjam
82' Triadis with a long-range effort but Gurpreet dives low to parry the ball away for a corner.
81' GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL! Albert Serran nods the ball home to give Bengaluru FC a two-goal cushion.

Erik Paartalu is free inside the left hand side of the penalty box and his chipped cross is headed home after no one marks Serran. The NorthEast United players are claiming offside. Well, Udanta was offside marginally but he never made contact with the ball or tried to interfere with it.
78' SHOT! That is the closes NorthEast United has come to score a goal. Gallego releases Triadis between two Bengaluru FC players and the Greek-German's effort from acute angle blazes across the face of goal before going out of play. Ninthoinganba Meetei could have found the back of the net with his first touch. All he had to do is stick his leg out and roll the ball in the back of the net. But, he is a second late and fails to get at the end of it.
77' NorthEast United makes a double change. Another player who was a part of the FIFA U-17 World Cup squad makes inroads.

ON- Provat Lakra, Ninthoinganba Meetei
OFF- Nim Dorjee Tamang, Redeem Tlang
75' PENALTY? Gallego is down inside the box after Nishu Kumar puts a high boot. He doesn't win the ball but referee waves away the protest of a penalty.
74' Redeem Tlang has a look at the goal from a tight angle but Juanan gets there first and makes a timely tackle to save the day. The ball rebounded off Redeem and Bengaluru FC get a goal-kick.
72' Khabra with a brilliant one-two with Udanta and the former lodges a cross trying to find an unmarked Sunil Chhetri at the far post. But, Subhasish Roy Chowdhury jumps in the air to collect the ball and releases the ball quickly.
70' NorthEast United make their first change. Robert Jarni is bringing on a striker for a defensive midfielder.

ON- Federico Gallego
OFF- Jose Leudo
69' Triadis has a shot at goal but he lays it off unselfishly to Redeem Tlang. However, his shot is nowhere near the frame of goal.
68' GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL! Sunil Chhetri draws the first blood for Bengaluru FC.

The captain takes a slow jog and after seeing that Shubasish committed to his left, Chhetri slams the ball at his bottom right corner.
67' The referee spots at the white paint and Bengaluru FC wins a penalty. Juanan takes a shot right in front of the referee and Redeem Tlang and the ball trickles his lap before touching his hand. Golden opportunity for Bengaluru to take the lead.
65' Bengaluru FC with a high-press wins a throw-in in the attacking third but they go all the way back to retain possession.
62' Dimas Delgado with an out-swinging cross but a Northeast United's defender gets to the end of it.
61' Udanta Singh wins a corner for his side after he fools Nim Dorjee Tamang to get a touch at the ball before the ball goes out of play.
59' SHOT! Harmanjot Singh Khabra with a lobbed cross from the right flank and an unmarked Sunil Chhetri jumps as high as he can to get his head to the ball. But, his effort is flapped in the air by Subhasish Roy Chowdhury.
58' NorthEast United are sitting deep in their own half and Bengaluru are finding it tough to penetrate them. To keep possession, they ultimately have to go all the way back.
56' Albert Serran, Juanan, and Dimas Delgado are taking too much time in the build-up of the game. This is where they are missing someone like Raphael Augusto.
55' Lalengmawia takes three touches of the ball at the centre of the pitch after no one closes him down and gives a pass to far side of the pitch to Triadis. He goes past Rahul Bheke but Albert Serran tidies the ball from his feet.
52' Udanta Singh gives a brilliant through ball to Rahul Bheke on the overlap between two NorthEast United players. But, the assistant raises his flag. The replays, however, suggest that Komorski had played him on when the ball was released. That was a close call.
51' Lalengmawia wins a foul off Dimas Delgado after the latter pushes him down at the centre of the pitch. The debutant has the Spaniard's number everytime. That is a vital reason why Bengaluru is not having a free hand in the midfield.
49' NorthEast United's Triadis goes down and the referee tries to give advantage to the home side as the ball is in the foot of Puitea. But, seeing he loses the ball to Rahul Bheke, he awards a free-kick.
46' Redeem Tlang tries to lodge a cross but Nishu Kumar says not today, boy. Lalthathanga Khawlhring's corner is collected by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu at the far post.
Bengaluru FC has made a change at half-time.

ON- Semboi Haokip
OFF- Ashique Kuruniyan
PEEP! PEEP! NorthEast United and Bengaluru FC head into the tunnel as they came out. It is 0-0 so far with Udanta Singh missing a gilt-edge opportunity to give his side the lead after his header into the empty net from inside the six-yard box hit the crossbar.
45+2' NorthEast United are sturdy at the back. Mislav Komorski gets a block after Bengaluru FC feed the ball to Ashique Kuruniyan. That should be it.
45+1' Panagiotis Triadis takes this corner but his cross hits the hand of Kai Heerings and Bengaluru FC win a free-kick in their own penalty box.
Two minutes have been added on.
45' NorthEast United win another corner but at the opposite end after Martin Chaves' effort is blocked by Rahul Bheke.
44' Reagan Singh with a long ball to Redeem Tlang. He takes a shot from a tight angle but the ball hits the foot of Nishu Kumar and NorthEast United win a corner.
42' Bengaluru FC concede a free-kick at the centre-circle after Dimas Delgado cleans Lalengmawia. Erik Paartalu tries to prevent NorthEast United to take it quickly by kicking the ball. The referee is not pleased with it and puts him in the book.
41' Redeem Tlang goes in the book for a high foot on Nishu Kumar. The Bengaluru FC youngster is down clutching his ankle but gets up quickly after the referee flashed the card.
40' Dimas Delgado's cross is met by Rahul Bheke after he went past Lalthathanga Khawlhring. His stooping header takes a touch on the ground before reaching the hands of Subhasish Roy Choudhary safely.
39' Udanta Singh thinks he can lodge a cross bypassing Nim Dorjee but it hits his leg and Bengaluru FC wins a corner.
38' Rahul Bheke takes a long throw-in and Erik Paartalu gets a head to the ball first. The ball finds Dimas Delgado and after some head tennis, the danger is cleared by Nim Dorjee Tamang.
36' Kai Heerings chips a ball trying to find Panagiotis Triadis with an off the ball running. But, Rahul Bheke pulls him down sidewise. Free-kick to NorthEast United.
33' WOODWORK! That will go down as the 'Miss of the Season.' Ashique Kuruniyan snatches the ball and beats Kai Heerings and chips a cross at the centre of the box. Udanta Singh has a free header at an empty net but his effort hits the woodwork from the six-yard box. The rebound from Bengaluru FC's Dimas is high.
32' SHOT! Sunil Chhetri tries to flick the ball with Dimas' low cross at the near post. No Bengaluru FC player marked him but his shot hits the legs of Nim Dorjee Tamang and NorthEast United breath a collective sigh of relief.
31' Albert Serran with a ground pass to Rahul Bheke after the entire NorthEast United defense fell back. But, his cross hits the legs of Nim Dorjee Tamang and Bengaluru has a corner.
28' Juanan punts a long ball after the entire NorthEast United defense fell back to stop Bengaluru's attack. The ball meets Rahul Bheke, who stayed up on the overlap, on the right wing but his low cross trickles past the line. No worries for NorthEast United.
25' Rahul Bheke's throw in his own half is intercepted by Martin Chaves. The Uruguayan cuts through Serran and takes a shot at goal from a narrow angle. But, it hits the lap of Sandhu.
23' Triadis this time goes for the far post but Gurpreet comes out of his line to collect the ball. His long kick reaches the opposite end and Ashique Kuruniyan has a foot race with Reagan Singh. But, the NorthEast United defender wins it and averts the danger.
22' Nim Dorjee, on the overlap, gives a forward pass to Panagiotis Triadis. He tries to cut through but Albert Serran gets his foot to the ball first and the Greek playmaker leaves the ball to go for a corner kick.
21' Triadis goes for another inswinging floater and Bengaluru FC defenders get to the ball first. This time the rebound falls to Jose Leudo but his shot is wide.
20' Triadis' inswinging corner is headed centrally by Rahul Bheke. His clearance is met by Lalthathanga Khawlhring whose long-range effort hits the face of Ashique Kuruniyan before going out of play. NorthEast United have another corner.
19' Chaves is through on goal. But, he slows down and instead of taking a shot before gives a backpass to Lalthathanga Khawlhring. His shot, however, is blocked and NorthEast United have a corner.
16' Triadis takes the corner kick and Komorski gets at the end of the cross. But, his header is intercepted by Bengaluru FC's Erik Paartalu before it can find the back of the net. NorthEast United are complaining of a handball but replays confirm it was not one.
15' Lalengmawia tries to center the ball through his first cross of the game but Ashique, who had tracked back, sticks out his foot.
14' Leudo this time brings Dimas Delgado from behind. The Columbian needs to get back to his groove.
12' Ashique cuts through Reagan Singh and goes into the box. He goes for a low cross but NorthEast United FC defenders get to the ball first. The clearance is only as long as Sunil Chhetri, who gives a backward pass to Erik Paartalu. The Aussie takes a shot from distance first-time but his effort is askew.
11' Sunil Chhetri wins the ball in a dangerous position. He gives a good ball to Udanta Singh and surges into the box. Rather than taking the shot from his right foot, he goes from his left foot and his feeble effort is blocked by Nim Dorjee Singh.
9' Dimas Delgado takes the free-kick but NorthEast United's defenders clear the ball away. They don't try any of their set-piece variation.
7' And, Jose Leudo does what he does best. He makes a mistimed tackle on Ashique Kuruniyan. Bengaluru FC wins a free-kick at a crucial position.
6' Bengaluru's another attack breaks down. Dimas, Erik Paartalu, and Sunil Chhetri plays a neat triangle at the centre of the pitch and the captain lays the ball for Dimas. The Spaniard takes a shot but Kai Heerings blocks the effort.
5' Ashique Kuruniyan this time takes a shot but his effort from a narrowing angle is met by a diving Subhasish Roy Chowdhury.
4' NorthEast United FC again disposses Bengaluru FC through Martin Chaves. He lays a forward pass for Lalthathanga Khawlhring but his through pass to Triadis is adjudged offside.
2' SHOT! Rahul Bheke makes a misspass and Martin Chaves wins the ball at the attacking third. He lays it off for Lalengmawia, who has a shot at goal from distance. And, his effort is inches wide. Gurpreet had it covered nonetheless.
1' PEEP! Bengaluru FC gets us going from the left to right end of our TV screens. And, they could have scored the earliest goal in ISL history. A long punted ball to Udanta on the right hand side and the 24-year-old swings a cross but there is no one to head it home.
National Anthems done, photographs clicked, and captains of both the sides have shaken each other's hands. It is time for kick-offs at the other end of the commercial break.
Both the teams are out of the tunnel. NorthEast United are wearing their home reds whereas Bengaluru FC are donning their away turquoise blue jerseys.
Martin Chaves has failed to find the back of the net in his seven appearances. The Uruguayan, however, is a good carrier of the ball and has created ample number of chances and registered two assists to his name. Will tonight be the night he breaks his goal drought?
Bengaluru FC is vulnerable with their marking while defending the crosses. Mumbai City FC showed that as all three goals of theirs came through crosses. Perhaps, that is the reason why they also brought in Lalengmawia. Now, they have four good crossers of the ball with others being Redeem Tlang, Lalthathanga Khawlhring, and Reagan Singh.
Once Asamoah Gyan left the pitch injured, ATK deployed a brilliant tactic to negate the attacks of NorthEast United FC. Antonio Lopez Habas dropped his side to a 5-3-2 formation and Robert Jarni's side had only five chances in that game as opposed to ATK's fifteen. Penetrating through a back-five for NorthEast United is impossible out a proper striker. Perhaps, Bengaluru FC can use it too. Note that Harmanjot Khabra has played the majority of the games as a full-back this season and Rahul Bheke can also slot at the centre of the defense.
Lalengmawia will be making his debut for NorthEast United in tonight's game. The youngster was NorthEast United's first acquisition in the summer transfer window. He made 11 appearances for Indian Arrows in the I-League last season and even scored a goal. His ability to play as a defensive midfielder can also come handy.
I am slightly surprised by the exclusion of Raphael Augusto. He was magnificient in their previous fixture and Jose Leudo had a harrowing time keeping a track of his movements.
Talking Tactics- NorthEast United FC

Seeing that NorthEast United don't have a marksman after the injury of Asamoah Gyan, Robert Jarni has fielded his side in a 4-1-3-2 formation. Wayne Vaz's unforgivable error has given a chance to Mislav Komorski come back in the center-back position partnering Kai Heerings. Nim Dorjee Tamang and Reagan Singh will have the responsibility to gallop down the wings and lob crosses as well as defend the threat of Bengaluru forwards. Jose Leudo will again don the role of destroyer-in-chief doing all the dirty work alongside making lunging tackles and vital blocks. Lalthathanga Khawlhring has been used in the role of a defensive midfielder but he is also responsible to lob direct balls to the forwards. Panagiotis Traidis will be a threat from the left wing with his goalscoring abilities from distance whereas his counterpart on the right hand side, Lalengmawia, is known for his pace. Redeem Tlang is promoted as a forward and will lead the line with Martin Chaves having the responsibility to feed him chances.
Talking Tactics- Bengaluru FC

It looks as if Carles Cuadrat has tweaked his formation a little from his preferred 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3. Nishu Kumar, Albert Serran, Juanan, and Rahul Bheke will complete the back-four with Gurpreet Singh Sandhu looking to get his sixth clean sheet of the competition. Versatile player Harmanjot Khabra moves up to the midfield from his full-back role to accompany the duo of Dimas Delgado and Erik Paartalu. The all-Indian trio of Ashique Kuruniyan, Sunil Chhetri, and Udanta Singh will share the responsibilities of creating chances and scoring goals.
NorthEast United FC, on the other hand, has made three changes to the side that got squashed 0-3 to ATK in their last home fixture. Wayne Vaz, Asamoah Gyan, and Rakesh Pradhan have been ousted from the starting line-up and Nim Dorjee Tamang, Mislav Komorski, and debutant Lalengmawia find their names in the starting line-up.
Bengaluru FC has made one change to the side that lost 2-3 to Mumbai City FC at their home ground which ended their unbeaten run in the 2019-20 season of ISL. Raphael Augusto goes out and makes way for Rahul Bheke
NorthEast United FC (4-1-3-2): Subhasish Roy Chowdhury (GK), Nim Dorjee Tamang, Kai Heerings, Mislav Komorski, Reagan Singh, Jose Leudo (c), Lalthathanga Khawlhring, Panagiotis Triadis, Lalengmawia, Redeem Tlang, Martin Chaves

Subs: Pawan Kumar (GK), Provat Lakra, Wayne Vaz, Federico Gallego, Ninthoingamba Meetei, Milan Singh, Nikhil Kadam
Bengaluru FC (4-3-3): Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Nishu Kumar, Albert Serran, Juanan, Rahul Bheke, Harmanjot Khabra, Dimas Delgado, Erik Paartalu, Ashique Kuruniyan, Sunil Chhetri (c), Udanta Singh

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your host Abhishek Kundu bringing the coverage of tonight's evening encounter between NorthEast United FC and Bengaluru FC from Guwahati. The line-ups should be out at any moment.
Redeem Tlang has the most number of tackles for NorthEast United FC and is followed by Jose Leudo. Both of them play an influential role in initiating counter-attacks for their team.
NorthEast United FC loves to start their attack from the full-backs. This can be attributed from the fact that Reagan Singh and Rakesh Pradhan, who operate on their right and left side of the pitch, have the most number of touches on the ball.
Dimas Delgado is the pass-master of Bengaluru FC, having made 520 passes in the 8 games they have played. Next up for them is Raphael Augusto, who has made 355 successful ones.
Bengaluru FC's 50% of the goals have come from their captain and striker Sunil Chhetri. The 35-year-old has netted in four goals with Erik Paartalu, Semboi Haokip, Udanta Singh, and Juanan finding the back of the net once each.
“Playing in the senior team is a great learning experience for me. They are all big names in (the team from) India as well as abroad. I keep learning from them, on and off the pitch. I keep myself motivated and will try to improve as much as possible. Soon, I’ll score goals,” said Bengaluru FC striker Edmund Lalrindika at the pre-match press conference.
"Maybe we cannot build a team now expecting to win a game 5-4. Maybe our games have to be 1-0. It has been working for us until now. Last season we won a lot of games 1-0 without Miku. He was injured. This season has also been similar. Except the 3-0 Chennaiyin win, the rest of our games have been difficult for us to score goals," said Bengaluru FC head coach Carles Cuadrat at the pre-match press conference.
“We all trained well, we trained together. The atmosphere in the camp is very positive. The players are very good and are giving their best in the training field. In relation to the match, we are mentally and physically ready. (Asamoah) Gyan is unavailable (for the upcoming game), but he will be playing the next match,” said NorthEast United FC head coach Robert Jarni at the pre-match press conference.
What happened the last time these two sides met?

Carles Cuadrat experimented with Ashique Kuruniyan playing in the left full-back position. The Indian international had a good outing and also managed to take 4 shots. He also kept Redeem Tlang quiet. Will Carles Cuadrat let him play as a winger or a full-back? We have to wait for the match to begin to find out.
What happened the last time these two sides met?

Raphael Augusto was adjudged the Hero of the Match for his flamboyant performance. The Brazilian, in his first appearance for Bengaluru FC, was all over the pitch and created two glorious chances. NorthEast United's captain Jose Leudo needs to keep a check on his movements, otherwise, he will make a huge difference in the outcome of the game.
What happened the last time these two sides met?

In their previous encounter at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, the Blues played a 0-0 draw despite dominating most of the contest. They had a staggering possession of 64% and 14 shots compared to NorthEast United FC's 10. The Highlanders didn't win a single corner whereas Bengaluru FC's boys swung a ball from the corner flag ten times. However, they could muster only 2 shots on target.
NorthEast United FC would be bolstered by the return of Federico Gallego but their talisman Asamoah Gyan is still recovering from injury. Can Gallego continue from where Gyan left? We will have to wait for the match to begin.
Sunil Chhetri has scored just once against NorthEast United FC in their five meetings, which came in last season's second leg semi-final. The Indian national team captain needs to find a way around the Highlanders defense.
Bengaluru FC are still the unbeaten side in ISL this season and have conceded only two goals away from home.
Head-to-Head record: NorthEast United FC and Bengaluru FC have clashed with each other seven times, with the latter picking up four wins as compared to the hosts' one. Bengaluru FC has scored ten goals past their opponents in these seven contests.
NorthEast United FC Predicted XI: Souvik Roy Chowdhury (GK), Kai Heerings, Mislav Komorski, Rakesh Pradhan, Reagan Singh, Jose Leudo, Lalthalthanga Khawlhring, Redeem Tlang, Martin Chaves, Nikhil Kadam, Federico Gallego
Bengaluru FC Predicted XI: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Juanan, Albert Serran, Rahul Bheke, Nishu Kumar, Dimas Delgado, Erik Paartalu, Raphael Augusto, Udanta Singh, Ashique Kuruniyan, Sunil Chhetri
Where to Watch the match: Viewers can watch the match live at Hotstar, Jio TV, and Star Sports Network.
Welcome to Sportskeeda's live coverage of the ISL 2019-20 match between NorthEast United FC and Bengaluru FC here at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Guwahati. The game will kick-off at 6:00 PM IST after the organizers decided to pre-pone the match owing to the political unrest in Assam.

There were concerns raised whether the match will go ahead as planned. To safeguard the safety of fans, ISL even rolled out a statement saying that the match would be held behind closed doors. But, after the assurance of the police, they decided to open the gates for the fans.
This is the second time both the sides would meet each other after the home fixture for Bengaluru FC ended in a 0-0 draw. Asamoah Gyan came the closest to scoring a goal for NorthEast United FC after his effort hit the woodwork.

Carles Cuadrat likes to deploy his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Raphael Augusto, Ashique Kuruniyan, and Udanta Singh feeding the balls to Sunil Chhetri. However, their most potent form of attack remains through the set-pieces.
The Blues also have one of the ablest defences in the ISL this season but conceded three goals in their last encounter against Mumbai City FC.
In the back, Juanan and Albert Serran will continue their sublime partnership for their twentieth game. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has been in fine form, having saved a penalty in Bengaluru FC's previous game.

NorthEast United FC will be bolstered by the return of Federico Gallego after the Uruguayan clashed his ankle with Miku in the first leg of their semi-final match against Bengaluru FC. Maximiliano Barreiro has been released from the squad.

It remains to be seen whether Asamoah Gyan has recovered completely after the Ghanian legend suffered a niggle in their game against ATK.
Up front, Redeem Tlang and Martin Chaves would share the responsibilities to feed balls to either of Gyan or Gallego.

Will Robert Jarni steer his side to victory and give the fans in NorthEast a glimmer of hope in their tough times or will Carles Cuadrat have the last laugh? Stay tuned with Sportskeeda to find out.
