PEEEP! PEEEEP! PEEEEEP!

Diego Simeone is immensely happy and runs down the tunnel punching his fists in the air. Zinedine Zidane and his men meanwhile carry the air of men who have suddenly heard some exceptionally grave news.

In all honesty, Real Madrid deserved to win that. But Atleti are what Atleti are exactly because of these kind of matches.

It was a brilliant derby, and 'twas an absolute pleasure to cover it. Thank you for reading

Anirudh Menon signing out...

Toodle-oooo
...
92' Atleti look unrecognisable from the side that had been aimlessly wandering around the Bernabeu. Real Madrid, meanwhile have resorted to Tony-Pulis-long ball tactics - with Ronaldo acting as the battering ram up front.
...
91' FOUR MINUTES ADDED ON! Real Madrid are absolutely furious with the ref for not getting a corner.
...
90' Real Madrid push forward forr what they will believe is a deserved winner, but Atleti suddenly look that unpenetrable Atleti of old.
...
89' Koke gets into the book for timewasting *sigh*. His ball in though is  rather good, and it takes all of Ramos' considerable aerial expertise to keep Atleti at bay.
...
88' Carvajal gives off a cheap freekick on Koke.. can Atletico land a sucker punch?
...
87' Simeone brings on Jose Gimenez for Yannick Carrasco
...
WHERE DID THAT COME FROM! CORREA THREADED THE EYE OF THE PROVERBIAL NEEDLE WITH A PASS TO GRIEZMANN WHO HAD PEELED AWAY FROM NACHO AND HE MADE NO MISTAKE WITH A CLINICAL LEFT FOOTED FINISH! Superb goal, but that came out of absolutely nowhere
...
86' OH! GOOOOOOOOOOAL! ANTOINE GRIEZMANNN!!!!
...
85' Correa outmuscles Marcelo down the right and is in behind the Real defence, but his cut back is right to Ramos' feet
...
84' Lucas Vazquez wins a smart foul off the frustrated Atleti midfielders and Real ease the pressure building up on them.
...
82' Isco is such an amazing dribbler. He extricates himself from a tough position with the kind of twinkle-toed magic that would Zidane would have been proud to pull off.
...
81' OH! THAT ABOUT SUMS UP ATLETI'S PERFORMANCE! Gabi tries to release Correa down the right, and ends up passing the ball straight out of play
...
80' The very poor Gareth Bale is replaced by enterprising young Lucas Vazquez as Madrid plays his final hand
...
79' Thomas Partey and Correa try to force a corner, but Marcelo is having absolutely none of it Atelti are camped in the Real third right now
...
78' Simeone takes off Fernando Torres and throws on young Thomas Partey as he prepares for a final assault
...
76' Zidane takes off the excellent Toni Kroos to give the in-form Isco a run-out...that's an attacking change right there! Zidane wants more than 1!
...
75' OH WOW! GRIEZMANN! WHAT AN AUDACIOUS ATTEMPT. The Frenchman is waved offside so what followed from Carrasco's pass is academic... but from the cross, he twisted his body and smashed an overhead kick that almost took Navas' palms off. UFF! What an effort.
...
74' Bale then powers down the outside, and lifts a ball in deep to Marcelo - who tries to Zidane a volley into the top corner. The ball is halfway across to Hampden Park now
...
73' Bale has enough of this wishy-washy passing (however good it may be), and cuts in from the right and shoots at goal. It's weak, though, and dribbles harmlessly wide.
...
72' Casemiro prompts another stunning move with an insouciant stepover. Modric sidefooted a superb ball to Benzema who ran at Savic before feeding Marcelo, who in turn almooost found Ronaldo.
...
70' Koke tries to find Correa with a chip into the box, but it's rubbish if we are being honest.
...
69' Ronaldo teases and torments Luis before pitch wedging a lovely ball into the far post, where Savic has to be at his absolute best to stop Bale from heading home. That passage of play came at the end of a scintillating passage of Madrid play
...
67' Wow. Real Madrid are attacking with some stunning fluency here. Kroos lays the ball off to Benzema, but his shot is blocked well by Juanfran... Carrasco bombards down the other end, but his cross into Griezmann is just too overhit.
...
66' Nacho is coming on for Pepe, who looks a little more injured than we earlier thought. A couple of ribs may be in need of some X-rays here.
...
65' This is getting feisty. Koke clatters into Kroos and despite the German's protestations, the ref asks play to go on.
...
63' THIS IS ALL SO SCRAPPY! Pepe, Ramos and Carvajal take it in turns to block various Atletico attempts to penetrate the box, before Kroos smashes into Pepe and completely winds the Portuguese defender.
...
62' EL Cholo wants change, and takes of Saul Niguez and throws on the young Argentine Angel Correa
...
61' Godin goes into the book for intentional handball and Madrid have a promising free kick that Ronaldo surprisingly leaves to Bale. Perhaps due to his own astonishment at this development, Bale's kick is horrendously poor.
...
60' OH NAVAS!!!! Carassco splits Madrid open with a superb pass that allows Fernando Torres to run one-on-one with Navas, and the Costa Rican does superbly to save. UFFF!!
...
59' OW! That came out of nothing! After a bit of head tennis in the Real Madrid third, the ball bounces to Saul who controls it well on his chest, before turning on a dime and lashing a shot that goes straight at Navas
...
58' Real Madrid are pressing with near- Bielsa-esque intensity of the ball (everyone, including the BBC) and it's paying off. Atleti look utterly dazed here.
...
57' Madrid are passing the ball around with calm authority now, this is very much their game to lose. Real Madrid have been palpably the better side on show tonight.
...
55' Carrasco skins Marcelo, but his cross is scrappily cleared away by Sergio Ramos. From that Real counter - Carvajal-Bale-Carvajal... and the right back ends up skying a presentable volley into row Z.

Zidane is not pleased with that effort, but then that man was a volleying GOD
...
53' Atletic have looked so un-Atleti, flaky at the back, sloppy in possession, and Real Madrid have made them pay. The visitors finally decide to up the ante and start passing the ball with more intent
...
WOOF! Toni Kroos curls a magnificent cross into the box that Pepe powers into the back of the net. Absolute monster of a header, that was!
...
53' GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLL!!! PEPE!!!!!
...
52'... and it shows as Atletico win a first booking of the game. Saul clattering Gareth Bale - Atleti are chasing shadows here
...
51' Ronaldo runs at Juanfran, but his cross is poor. Koke's clearance is even worse, and Ronaldo almost pickpockets his way into the Madrid box. The pressure has now become incessant....
...
49' Bale and Modric try to work their ay into the box, but Gabi is having none of it.... the ball is packed to and fro the Madrid flanks before Carvajal aimlessly chips one out of play
