What an evening in Abu Dhabi for the Blue Tigers! Did any of you see this happening? Even in the wildest of your dreams! I've been told by my colleagues here that drinks are on me tonight, and in my current state, I've only been too happy to agree. If you're Indian and you aren't, I'm questioning your very existence! Goodbye from us at Sportskeeda, I'm going to need some time to let that sink in!

JAI HIND!
Thailand 1-4 India

No, I've still not registered this, yet. Stephen Constantine's men were really men possessed in that second half. They pressed so high, they played such beautiful attacking football. They have a legend named Sunil Chhetri, who just does legend things. They have a precociously talented young kid in Anirudh Thapa, who continues to grow in stature. They have some superb young wingers in Udanta Singh, in Ashique Kuruniyan, in Halicharan Narzary, who have been superb tonight.

As Abu Dhabi sees the War Elephants recover from this shock, India really now have put one foot in the knockout stages with this win. What a win, what a performance, what superb goals! Sunil Chhetri set it away with two, and then Anirudh Thapa and Jeje Lalpekhlua rounded off the win.

Two from Bengaluru FC, two from Chennaiyin FC, FOUR for India.
90+3' PEEEEEP PEEEEEP PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP! ONE OF THE GREATEST NIGHTS IN RECENT MEMORY FOR INDIAN FOOTBALL! LET IT SINK IN, INDIA HAVE WON 4-1. AGAIN, TAKE A LITTLE BREATH, AND LET IT SINK. INDIA HAVE BEATEN THAILAND BY FOUR GOALS TO ONE. SENSATIONAL!
90+1' Not that it's going to make a difference, but there are going to be three minutes added on at the end of the second half.
87' That's a nice shot from Thitiphan with his left foot, but it's straight at Gurpreet, and the skipper has made no mistake in catching that one.
86' Germanpreet will replace Pronay, who has stepped it up superbly in the second half.

ON - Germanpreet Singh
OFF - Pronay Halder
86' Thailand look deflated here, and India are running home easily with this. What a start from India to this tournament. Germanpreet is ready to come on.
83' Rowllin! India are having fun now, Chhetri lays it off to Rowllin, who tries to curl one into the top corner from 30 yards out. It's high.
80' GOOOOAAAAALLLL! JEJE LALPEKHLUA FINALLY HAS A GOAL! WHAT A SUBSTITUTION! WHAT A FINISH!

Horrible clearing header from Pansa, that Narzary receives to set it up for Jeje. He toe-pokes that, and it's found the top corner! WHAT A NIGHT THIS IS FOR INDIAN FOOTBALL!
79' Yellow card for Pansa, this time, as he brings down the excellent Narzary who'd exchanged passes cleverly with Udanta.
79' Thailand have made their final change of the night.

ON - Sumanya Purisay
OFF - Adisak Kraisorn
77' India make their first two changes of the night, as Ashique goes off after a sensational performance. Thapa goes off as well, he'll remember this day forever, his first ever India goal!

ON - Jeje Lalpekhlua, Rowllin Borges
OFF - Ashique Kuruniyan, Anirudh Thapa
75' CHANCE FOR THAILAND! Superb play from Teerasil to make space for himself, but Anas has done superbly to put his body on the line and make the block. Thailand have a corner. And India have cleared it without too much fuss.
73' That is a surprise. Thailand have taken their talisman, Chanathip, off.

ON - Sirod Chatthong
OFF - Chanathip Songkrasin
70' That's floated into the box from Tristan, and Jaided has gotten on the end of that cross. But his header is wide of Gurpreet's goal.
68' GOOOOAAAAALLLL! WHAT A FINISH FROM ANIRUDH THAPA!

What a ball that was from Sunil to Udanta, and I really thought he'd blown the chance, but he just plays it back to Thapa. AND WHAT A FINISH THAT IS! HE'S CHIPPED THAT! THE CHEEK! INDIA ARE IN DREAMLAND!
67' A little bit of confusion between Udanta and Pritam in India's defensive third, and Jaided has taken a shot-cum-cross, that has gone nowhere near the goal or a Thai player.
66' The referee's whistle stops India's attack, and there's no foul there. Chhetri is jumping to win the ball, and hasn't made contact with any Thai defender.
65' Another India free-kick, another superb bit of play on the right flank from Udanta and Pritam.
63' What a chance for the hat-trick! Udanta is played through to use his pace and his cross is weak, but the keeper has spilled it, Chhetri just cannot get on the end of that. Big chance again for India!
62' Udanta and Narzary have been superb! Their defensive work-rate has been fantastic, while also ensuring that hasn't compromised their attacking threat.
61' Thapa's corner is into a superb area, but no Indian is attacking that, and that's an easy catch for the keeper.
61' ABSOLUTELY SUPERB PLAY FROM ASHIQUE! WHAT STRENGTH! India have another corner.
58' Thailand make their first change of the day.

ON - Korrokot Wirriya-Udomsiri
OFF - Sanrawat Dechmitr
57' Chhetri! From about 40 yards out! HIGH! He was set up by Anas who found himself on the left wing. So much action in that move. India in command.
56' Chhetri floats that one into the box, but it's a little too high for any Indian to attack it, and the Thai keeper has a straightforward catch.
55' Superb spell of possession again from India, and Thapa's ping to Narzary is perfect. He looks to drive past Tristan, and India have another free-kick in a dangerous area.
54' Thapa's corner finds Chhetri, and his glancing header is a little too high! That was a chance for the hat-trick!
53' India have another corner! Superb win of the ball from Pritam, and Ashique wins the corner off Pansa.
52' Narzary is testing the height of the Burj Khalifa with that volley! The corner was taken short by Chhetri to Thapa, who found Narzary in the box. His right-footed volley, well, the less said, the better.
51' Chhetri plays this out wide to Narzary, and he gets past his man and looks to cross, but it's blocked, and India have a corner.
50' What a start this has been to the second half from India! They have started on the front foot, and used the pace of Udanta and Ashique superbly!
49' Thapa! Pritam wins the ball well, and feeds Chhetri whose cross is cleared straight to Thapa, who hooked volley is straight at the Thai keeper.
46' GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!! WHAT A GOAL FROM SUNIL CHHETRI! INDIA ARE BACK IN FRONT!

He set that move off with a lovely pass down the flank to Udanta, and his pulled it back towards Ashique, who has miscontrolled it, but it has fallen straight at the feet of Chhetri, who has smashed that straight into the top corner, and scored his 67th international goal for the country. Captain or not, he is the talisman!
46' PEEEPP! We're back underway, and it's Thailand who get us away.
We're moments away from the second half beginning in Abu Dhabi. Can India nick this result and get that campaign kickstarted in a huge way? No changes to either side at the start of the second period.
Thailand 1-1 India

In a game that has matched the pre-match expectation about the pattern, India have more than held their own here. Thailand have largely been reduced to shots from distance, and India even took the lead. They won a penalty which was unerringly put away by Sunil Chhetri. The lead didn't last long though, as a superb cross from Theerathon Bunmathan was met by the head of Teerasil Dangda for the Thai equaliser.

There's all to play for in the second half in Abu Dhabi, and we'll be back in a bit for that.
45+1' PEEEEP! That's half-time, and it's all square here at the Al-Nahyan Stadium.
45+1' We'll have one minute to be added on at the end of this half for stoppages.
44' Supachai Jaided has taken a shot from distance, now, and once again there's nothing for Gurpreet to do. It was more a stab than a shot, and lacked any real conviction.
42' CHHETRI! Gurpreet's launch upfield is won by Chhetri, it's retrieved by Ashique and kept alive for Chhetri, whose volley from 25 yards is well above the target.
40' Pronay Halder is being Pronay Halder, and that isn't exactly good news. FYI, being Pronay Halder is a term used to describe someone who jumps into every tackle he can possibly see, and maybe even those that he can't.
39' We have our first caution of the day, and it's gone to Sanrawat Dechmitr for what was a bad tackle on Thapa.
37' What a chance for Chhetri! Narzary's cross is chested down to Chhetri by Ashique, but Sunil tries to make a yard to take a shot, which was closed down by Chalermpong.
36' That goal has calmed the Thais down, and they're now stroking the ball around with ease. India have a free-kick in their own half to relieve pressure, as Pansa fouls Ashique.
33' GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!! Thailand have equalised through their captain, Theerasil Dangda.

Lovely ball from Theerathon into the space between the goalkeeper and the defence, and Theerasil makes no mistake with the header. Game on!
32' Thailand have a free-kick, and it's that man Chanathip who's fouled again. Narzary fouls him, when he didn't have to, Pronay was winning that ball anyway.
31' Another shot for Thitiphan! That was a big chance, but the shot was rather diabolical. He had options around him, with both Kraisorn and Teerasil waiting to be slipped in on goal.
30' That is absolutely superb tracking back from Narzary! Chanathip was on his bike and had the afterburners on, the Indian winger kept up with him stride for stride, and made a crucial tackle.
29' India have been buoyed by the goal. There are more bodies chasing balls down!
27' GOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLL!!! 66th International Goal for Sunil Chhetri. The goalkeeper has been sent the wrong way, and the ball nestles in the bottom left corner! 1-0 India! Not quite captain tonight, but legend alright!
26' INDIA HAVE A PENALTY!

India had a throw-in, that Chhetri took quickly to Ashique. His shot was saved by the Thai keeper and then hit Theerathon on the arm. Step up, Sunil Chhetri!
24' Thailand have a corner, as Anas clears a through-ball from Chanathip that was going towards Teerasil. It should've been an India free-kick for a foul on Anas, but the referee hasn't seen it.
23' Thailand have grown into the game superbly, and are controlling proceedings here in Abu Dhabi. Pronay is the latest to come up with an important defensive header, as Tristan puts a superb cross in from the right flank.
22' This time, Gurpreet is more commanding, and has come out and made proper contact on his punch. Well done, skipper!
21' INDIA HAVE ESCAPED! Super save from Gurpreet but did he know what he was doing?! It was superb ball in and the header from Pansa hit Gurpreet, and ricocheted off Anas for a Thai corner. Theerathon will take the corner.
20' The referee has pulled up Sandesh for a foul on Sanrawat. Thailand have a free-kick in a very good position. Tristan Do will take.
19' Thailand look to break out through Chanathip and Teerasil, but Subhasish has won that cleanly and India have their rearguard untouched so far.
18' Theerathon finds himself in acres of space on the left flank. He really should be crossing into a dangerous area from there, but it's gone straight out of play.
17' Ashique has made a superb start to this game. He's used his strength superbly, and his dribbling ability has helped India progress really well.
16' Chanathip has driven Thailand forward, and then they work it to Theerathon through Jaided. Pritam stays close to the Thai left-back, and India can clear the danger.
15' Lovely shape on the delivery from Thapa, is cleared by Pansa. But Theerathon's subsequent clearance is weak and falls straight to Udanta, who cut on to his left, and delivered another teasing cross, which is cleared by Pansa again. It falls to Jhingan, but his touch has let him down.
14' Super turn from Chhetri, as he received a pass from Narzary. Thitiphan fouls him, and India have a free-kick in a promising position. Thapa will take.
12' Ashique looks to receive from a throw-in, and he's fouled by Pansa. Another set-piece opportunity for India which comes to nothing, and Thailand can build from the back now.
11' Thitiphan! What a strike! Sandesh and Pronay dived in to tackles and left spaces for the Thais to exploit and they made full use of it. Thitiphan found himself in space about 25 yards off goal, and looked for the postage stamp on the top left corner. Just wide.
10' Theerathon emerges from left-back and plays a through-ball looking for Kraisorn. Gurpreet has absolutely rushed out and smashed it straight upfield to the other goalkeeper.
9' India have started rather well. Their competing well for every ball, and the nerves don't seem to be affecting them just yet.
8' Chanathip plays a lovely ball to the right wing looking for Kraisorn, but Subhasish has stuck to his man, and given Thailand a throw-in, Thailand have held possession well.
7' Subhasish has played an aerial ball into the channel looking for Chhetri, but Tristan Do is in the way, and he's miscued his clearance. India have a throw.
6' What a turn from Chanathip! He's left Pronay for dead, and the Indian man has absolutely clattered into him!
4' India have a free-kick, as Thithiphan fouls Pritam. Anas launches it and Halicharan wins it in the box, but it is cleared by the Thai defence.
3' Absolutely superb run from Ashique, and he gets up about 40-50 yards and sends a cross in, which is superbly delivered but there's no one in the box to profit. Udanta keeps it alive and then India rebuild and get back to Ashique. His second cross of the night is behind Chhetri. Promising signs!
2' Gurpreet launches another absolutely huge ball towards Sunil, and he catches Chalermpong on the face while leading with the arm.
1' Surprise Surprise! India have taken the ball to Gurpreet from kickoff and the big man has absolutely launched it forward in the vague direction of Sunil Chhetri. Nothing comes off it.
1' PPEEEEEPPPP! We're underway, and it will be India who get us underway through Ashique.
Anthems have been sung. Hands have been shook. Gurpreet and Teerasil will soon stand beside the officials for the toss. Moments away from kick-off!
Time for the anthems. First, Thailand. Then, Jana Gana Mana!
The teams are in the tunnel, Gurpreet with that armband, towering over everyone else, and leading the line out. India in all-white, Thailand in all-blue.
Ten minutes from kick-off, here at the Al-Nahyan Stadium. The Blue Pilgrims are in attendance in Abu Dhabi, and there's huge anticipation building up here!
The Thai full-backs are going to be absolutely key. Both attacking players, and possibly the best in Asia. It is going to be imperative for India to control Tristan Do and Theerathon Bunmathan.
Constantine says India are not here to make up the numbers, and wants the players to go out and show that they can qualify for the second round.
Stephen Constantine says, "We're excited, we're looking forward to the game, and hopefully we'll do India proud. My message to the boys is simple, we have to win tonight. Thailand are a very good side, it'll be a tough game and we're looking forward to the challenge."
Jordan have just beaten Australia 1-0. After Bahrain held UAE to a draw last night, that's another surprise result from this Asian Cup. Can India take the cue, and make it three out of three? Kick off from the Al Nahyan Stadium is 35 minutes away.
For India it could remain the same old 4-4-2, with either Ashique Kuruniyan or Udanta Singh taking Jeje's place as the no.9, and the other filling the right-wing slot.
Thailand are playing two attacking full-backs, and three strikers. It looks like Milovan Rajevac has decided that the best way to go about it is to go all-out in attack and intimidate India.
Could we see a switch away from the 4-4-2 for Stephen Constantine tonight? It would be a massive surprise, but given the nature of the XI named, it looks a possible option. If that's the option taken, Subhasish Bose could join Jhingan and Anas in a back three, with Narzary becoming the left-wing-back.
Starting XIs:

India:
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Pritam Kotal, Sandesh Jhingan, Anas Edathodika, Subhasish Bose, Pronay Halder, Anirudh Thapa, Udanta Singh, Halicharan Narzary, Ashique Kuruniyan, Sunil Chhetri

Thailand: Chatchai Bootprom, Tristan Do, Chalermpong Kerdkaew, Pansa Hemviboon, Theerathon Bunmathan, Sanrawat Dechmitr, Thitiphan Puangjan, Chanathip Songkrasin, Supachai Chaided, Adisak Kraisorn, Teerasil Dangda
WE'VE GOT TEAM NEWS! THERE'S NO JEJE LALPEKHLUA FOR INDIA
Just about getting to that time when we get the team news from India's Asian Cup opener! Welcome to Sportskeeda's Live Coverage of Thailand v India, we're all hoping for the Blue Tigers to make a splash at this tournament.
There has just been BIG NEWS coming out of the India camp in the UAE: GURPREET SINGH SANDHU WILL LEAD THE BLUE TIGERS AT THIS TOURNAMENT
If you're here waiting for the India match to kick off, why not head over to our live commentary from the other game that kicks off in about 40 minutes. Aravind Suchindran is there to take you through Australia v Jordan
Given the composition of this Thailand side, it would really be for the best for India to play three men across midfield. But, I think it is a very easy conclusion to make that there is going to be no deviation from Constantine's usual 4-4-2.
Chanathip Songkrasin. Teerasil Dangda. Teerathon Bunmathan. Three HUGE players as far as the War Elephants are concerned. Can India keep the quiet? What else do you have to know about this Thai side. SK's Aravind Suchindran and Aaditya Narayan have you covered over here.
India is one tonight. One, with the Blue Tigers. One, hoping that Stephen Constantine's charges can make a whole nation dream.
Amrinder Singh has been ruled out of tonight's clash with a minor injury concern. Narayan Das is also a doubt to feature in this one.
Rotation or side-lining?
In the pretext of rotating captains, coach Stephen Constantine is set to hand the arm-band to goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu instead of Sunil Chhetri.

Gurpreet has, of course, captained India before. He was the skipper in the friendly against Jordan.

However, there could be more than meets the eye. There are reports of a feud between Constantine and Chhetri with the prolific forward questioning the tactics of the Englishman. Could this be Constantine's comeback for Chhetri's insubordination?
Probable XI:

India: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (GK), Pritam Kotal, Sandesh Jhingan, Anas Edathodika, Subhasish Bose, Pronay Halder, Anirudh Thapa, Udanta Singh, Halicharan Narzary, Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua

Thailand: Chatchai Budprom (GK), Theerathon Bunmathan, Chalermpong Kerdkaew, Adisorn Promrak, Pansa Hemviboon, Thitipan Puangchan, Sanrawat Dechmitr, Chanathip Songkrasin, Adisak Kraisorn, Teerasil Dangda, Siroch Chatthong
India v Thailand preview:

India were the first team to arrive in the UAE, the venue of the Asian Cup 2019, and will hope they are not the first side to exit the country.
For that, it's important that India start their campaign on a high but they face the tricky Thailand side in Group A at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

India have to stay focused and ride on the momentum throughout the 90 minutes if they wish to pull off a win against the War Elephants.

A big threat for India will be midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin, who gave a hard time to the likes of Andres Iniesta and Lukas Podolski in the J-League. Songkrasin plays for Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo and was named in the Best XI of the J-League this year.

Another danger man for India is Teerasil Dangda, who has experience of playing in Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

As for India, coach Stephen Constantine will hope that Jeje Lalpekhlua finds his scoring feet again. The Mizo forward has netted even once in the Indian Super League (ISL) despite making 11 appearances for Chennaiyin FC.

The onus will be on prolific forward Sunil Chhetri to carry the team through. Chhetri, 34, will probably play his last Asian Cup and the Bengaluru FC striker will be gunning to take India through to the next round.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has shown that he's prone to mistakes from the outing against Jordan. The tall goalkeeper has to minimize errors from his side to see that the defence has it easy.

Sandesh Jhingan will lead the defence and will partner Anas Edathodika in the central defence most probably.

Jhingan has the task of cutting out the pass to Dangda from Songkrasin.

The midfield of Udanta Singh, Pronay Halder, Anirudh Thapa and Halicharan Narzary need to enjoy their creative freedom in the middle of the park. The wingers, especially, have their task cut out.

Three points for India will go a long way in ensuring their progress to the Round of 16. Even the four best third-placed teams can make the knockouts from the group stages.

When and where to watch: Live telecast is on Star Sports Network. The game will also be streamed on Hotstar and Jio TV. The kick off is at 7 pm IST.
