It was an enthralling game of football which just burst to life in the second half and then it was all end to end. Two goals in the span of 1-minute turned the tie on its head but Celta held on to take the lead into the second leg.

Credit must be given to Eduardo Berizzo for organizing his side in such a manner so as to stifle the La Liga giants. They have pulled off an epic upset at the Bernabeu and have all to play for at home. Can they knock the favourites out of the competition? We will have to wait and find out.

Real Madrid will have to look back and examine what has suddenly gone so wrong for them. They were on a 40-match unbeaten streak and are now struggling to win games. They have to be careful of Barcelona and Sevilla in the league and a draw in the second leg of the Copa del Rey would mean they are knocked out of the competition.

This is Celta Vigo's only second win over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey and their first since 1940. The away side have the advantage ahead of the second leg and with the home support behind them they will surely fancy their chances.

Having been unbeaten for the entire season, Real Madrid have now lost 2 games in the space of 4 days.

89' Substitution: Guidetti comes on to replace Wass, who is given a rather nasty send-off by the Real Madrid players who are incensed by him trudging away from the pitch.

And Celta with the final throw of the dice and it is Guidetti who is coming on for Wass.

87' SUBSTITUTION: Pione Sisto comes on for Bongonda!

Madrid are camping in Celta's half but are unable to penetrate the away side's resilient defence. They have less than 10 minutes left to salvage something from the first leg of the quarter final.

83' WHAT A MISS!! Marcelo curls the ball inside the box for Morata who heads the ball down and the keeper gets down brilliantly to parry the effort but only into the feet of Benzema. The Frenchman has an open goal in front of him but he blazes over from around 10 yards out. That miss could prove costly for the home side.

82' Substitution: Sergi Gomez comes on to replace the goalscorer Iago Aspas.

Madrid are staring at their second successive defeat. They imploded in the last 10 minutes against Sevilla and the story is somewhat similar today. Testing times for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit.

80' Substitution: Karim Benzema comes on to replace Danilo as Zidane throws the kitchen sink!

Karim Benzema is looking to come on as Zidane prepares his final roll of the dice. Can his side avoid a second successive defeat?

75' Ramos is a lucky man to stay on the pitch. He is already on a yellow and he catches Aspas on the face while challenging for the ball but the referee does not see it as a bookable offence.

72' Substitution: Kovacic comes on to replace Vasquez!

The game has suddenly burst to life and this is sensational stuff. The away side are sniffing a victory here and are looking to cause a huge upset.

Aspas finds the run of Castro who darts into the box and the left-back lefts the ball over Casilla to give the away side the lead once again. Real Madrid 1-2 Celta Vigo!

69' GOOOAALLLL! Madrid equalize and what a goal by Marcelo!!!

WHAT A STRIKE!!! Modric has the ball on the edge of the box and it is headed away from goal where Marcelo is at hand to take a first time left-footed shot on the volley which takes a deflection and nestles into the back of the net. GAME ON!! REAL MADRID 1-1 CELTA VIGO

68' Madrid have a free-kick down the right and Kroos stands over it. The German swings it deep and it is headed back into the box but Celta clear.

67' Ronaldo goes down under minimal contact from Cabral and the referee waves away the protests of the Real Madrid superstar.

It would be unfair to say that Celta have scored against the run of play as the away side have had the chances. Bongonda goes on a sprint down the left and curls a teasing cross into the box. Marcelo is there to clear it but he is afraid of guiding it into his own net and so he kicks it back into the box and the ball falls to Aspas. Aspas takes a touch before curling the ball into the top with Casilla and two Real Madrid defenders homing on him.

64' GOOOAALLLL!!! Celta Vigo score and it is Iago Aspas.....

63' Varane sends an over the top through ball for Morata but the Frenchman has overhit it and Morata cannot get on the end of it.

61' Aspas and Ramos get into an altercation after the Celta Vigo man brings down the Real Madrid captain. Ramos is not happy and gets into the face of the former Liverpool man, who gently slaps the Spanish defender. That could have been a yellow card for the duo.

60' Some good defending by Celta to win the ball back in quick succession. Can they make Real Madrid pay for their failure to break the deadlock.

59' Vasquez finds the ball on the edge of the box and takes a speculative shot which sails wide.

58' MISS! Vasquez has the ball near the visitor's box and he cuts it back for Kroos who finds Morata with an inch-perfect through ball. The Spaniard takes a shot but it is blasted over. He should have done better.

56' From the second corner Madrid try to break the deadlock but the away side clear and Kroos gets the ball on the right as he tries to float it into the box but it is another poor cross from the German.

55' Real Madrid win a corner and Kroos swings it in but it is a poor delivery and Wass kicks it out.

The Spanish striker has two goals in the Copa del Rey in three games and will be hoping to make an impact tonight.

53' Substitution: Alvaro Morata comes on to replace Asensio.

Morata is ready to come on and it is likely that that he will replace Asensio.

51' Aspas puts Varane under pressure and the Frenchman passes it back to his keeper who is forced to clear it.

50' Asensio is still not back in the game as he is bring treated on the sidelines but the Spaniard is now ready to come on heavily strapped on the right hand.

48' Rocaglio and Asensio contest for the ball and the Real Madrid man goes down and the Celta defender jumps on his fingers while trying to avoid a collision with Asensio's head. The Real Madrid forward is in much pain and it remains to be seen if he will be able to continue after that.

46' Asensio cuts the ball into the box where Vasquez is lurking. The latter tries to take a shot with minimal backlift but it is blocked.

46' And we are underway for the second half at the Santiago Bernabeu!

The Celta players make their way onto the pitch as Real players await them.

And we are nearing the restart.

Celta have defended excellently and have been lively on the counter. They have matched Madrid toe to toe in terms of chances created and will be fancying their chances in the second half.

Real Madrid's quest to bounce back from their first defeat of the season is not going according to plan. While they have dominated possession, they have failed to make the clear-cut chances needed to break down the away side's defence.
