Right then, that brings us to the end of the coverage from Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Indian shuttlers had a good outing on Day 2 as well, while the paddlers lost to Malaysia in the quarter-final match. The Indian Women's Hockey Team extended their winning lead in the competition with a 3 - 1 over Wales.

India won 4 medals in weightlifting on Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2022. Mirabai Chanu clinched India's first goal in the ongoing edition of the CWG. The nation won 2 silver medals and 1 bronze in the Weightlifting event.

BADMINTON

India defeat Australia 4 - 1 in the Mixed Team Event group stage match. Indian shuttlers B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa win both games with scores of 21 -14 & 21 - 11.

WEIGHTLIFTING

India's Bindyarani Devi lifts 116kg in her final attempt in the Clean & Jerk discipline. She has lifted a total of 202kg across both disciplines and has won SILVER for India.

Devi was 1kg behind Gold medalist Adijat Adenike Olarinoye.

BADMINTON

INDIA 3 - 1 AUSTRALIA

Australia pick up their first point against India! Australia win both games 21 - 13 and 21 - 19 against Tressa Jolly and Pullela Gopichand.

BADMINTON

India take a 3-0 lead vs Australia!

Sumeeth Reddy/Chirag Shetty win 21-16, 21-19 over Tran Pham/Jack Yu.

We now move on to the women's doubles clash, where India will be represented by Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand

SWIMMING: Men's 100m backstroke final

Srihari Nataraj did exceedingly well in the semifinal to book a spot in the summit clash, but he finishes 7th with a time of 54.31s to his name.

WEIGHTLIFTING

India's Bindyarani Devi lifts 81kg in her first attempt. She lifts 84kg & 86kg in her next two attempts in the Snatch discipline. Clean & Jerk to follow soon!

BOXING

India's Sanjeet loses 2 - 3 against Ato Leau Plodzicki-Faoagali in the Men's Over 86kg - 92kg Round of 16 match.

BADMINTON

India take a 1-0 lead in Match 3 of the Mixed Team Event vs Australia.

Chirag Shetty/Sumeet Reddy were put to task by their rivals in the first game, but the duo come up on top and take an important lead with a 21-16 win.

HOCKEY

INDIA win 3 - 1 against Wales

Vandana Katariya found the net once again in the final quarter to guide India to another victory in the Women's Hockey event. They are on a roll with two wins from as many games.

SQUASH

14-year-old Anahat Singh loses 1 - 3 to Wales' Emily Whitlock in the Women's Singles Round of 32. Not a good finish for the young Indian player but she'll look to learn from this loss.

Abhay Singh, on the other hand, pulled out from the Men's Singles Round of 32 match. He sustained an injury during his second game against Scotland's Alan Clyne.

LAWN BOWLS

Canada loses to India 7 - 17 in the Round 3 of the Women's Fours Section D. The Indian side dominated the game since the start and deserved to win this game.

BADMINTON

India extend lead further, 2-0 over Australia

PV Sindhu makes small work of her singles clash against Wendy Chen, uses her power and precision in a perfect combination to bring about a 21-10, 21-12 win in style!

HOCKEY

End of 3rd quarter: INDIA 2 - 1 WALES

Wales manage to put one into the back of the net at the very last moment. However, they trail by a goal.

BOXING

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeats Ariane Nicholson 5 - 0 in the Women's Over 66kg - 70kg Round of 16 match. She's into the quarterfinal!

BADMINTON

India take 1-0 lead over Australia

Kidambi Srikanth dominates his opening singles clash against Ying Lin, registers a 21-14, 21-13 win to get India off to the perfect start.

HOCKEY

End of 2nd quarter: INDIA 2 - 0 WALES

India score the first goal off a penalty corner, where Gurjit Kaur flicked it into the penalty box. Vandana Katariya converted the goal with ease. India's drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur scored the second goal to double the lead.

TABLE TENNIS: India women lose 3-2 to Malaysia Women in the Quarterfinals.

A valiant effort from Reeth Tennison to level scores at 8-8, but a couple of errors laced with frustration saw her give away easy points for Ho Ying. A major upset!

HOCKEY

End of 1st quarter: INDIA 0 - 0 WALES

At the end of 15 mins, the score remains 0 - 0 as both nations are yet to open their account in today's match.

India 2 - 2 Malaysia, Ho Ying takes a win in Game 4.

Reeth had almost no chances in that game to take the lead as Ho maintained a slender lead. At 7-7 and 8-8, it seemed as if Reeth would probably get a nose ahead, but the Malaysian held her nerve to seal the win.

This is going into the 5th game!

Reeth Tennison now seems to have some momentum building on her end, with six straight points that knocked Ying off her guard. A comfortable 11-6 win for the Indian, and we're now into the fourth game.

Batra looked slightly out of sorts in the singles clash as she failed to suppress her opponent, a 6-11, 3-11, 9-11 loss to Karen Lyne which now puts India's chances of qualifying for the semifinals in turmoil.

A top effort from Sreeja to keep her opponent at bay, seals a 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 win over Chang Li!

Mirabai Chanu wins INDIA's FIRST GOLD MEDAL in CWG 2022 with a total attempt of 201 kg!

Her 3rd attempt of 115kg in the C&J goes in vain, but she's stood up to the billing and made the entire country proud, yet again! It was always a case of Mirabai competing against herself to get better and better, while constantly pushing up the weights with every effort.

Mirabai Chanu lifts 113 kg! She now has a total of 201kg to her name!

She wants to go for one more try, and she's raised the weight to 115 kg. This is just some unbelievable motivation!

Mirabai Chanu wins the GOLD medal!

A 109kg attempt for the new Commonwealth Games record holder, she's now at a total of 197 kg.

Well, she's now raising the bar and looking for a total of 200+, she's posted 113kg attempt for her second try!

And absolutely no surprise, Chanu has marked her first attempt at a whopping 109kg.

Manika Batra wins to help India level scores 1-1!

A great effort from Malaysia's Ying Ho, who won back-to-back games after trailing the Indian star shuttler 0-2 in the match. Manika, however, held on at the end to put up a tremendous show and clinch the final game 11-3.

Manika won 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 9-11, 11-3 against Ho.

All eyes now on Sreeja Akula - who turns 24 tomorrow - who will need to win this clash for India to have a safe path ahead.

CYCLING

David Beckham finished 2nd in Heat 3 of the First Round Repechages. He was 0.046 seconds behind Australia's Matthew Richardson and fails to qualify. Meanwhile, Esow also finished second in Heat 4 of the event and doesn't make it to the finals.

LAWN BOWLS

Cook Islands lose 10 - 13 against India in Round 3 of the Men's Pairs - Section C event.

CYCLING

Esow and David Beckham don't qualify directly for 2nd round. However, both players advance to the repechages.

Some unfortunate news coming in from TT, as India have conceded their first match loss of this Commonwealth Games 2022 edition.

Reeth Tennison/Sreeja Akula did well to win a set after conceding the first two, but they eventually succumb 7-11, 6-11, 11-5, 6-11 to Karen Lyne/Li Chang.

Ahead of Clean & Jerk then, Mirabai Chanu leads with 12kg of a bonus to her name.

She's marked her first C&J attempt at 105kg, the next best attempt 15kg behind at 90.

Oooh, a terrific attempt, but in vain! Nevertheless, the whole crowd erupts in support of Chanu, a champion lifter who has some zeal and is at the peak of her powers.

Well, well! She's pushed her boundaries even further, the attempt is now worth 90kg!

Mirabai Chanu has shattered her personal record! She is UNSTOPPABLE!

An 88kg attempt it was from Chanu, 1 kg more than her personal best and now she has a 12kg lead over the 2nd placed Ranaivosoa!

Chanu will next attempt 88kg!

Seems like she's keen to break her personal record, would be some achievement if she manages to pull it off!

How does she make it so easy?? Mirabai Chanu has absolutely nailed the 84kg attempt!

Her personal best is 87kg, but in context of this final, she already has 8 kg of a cushion ahead of her next closest competitor.

Mirabai Chanu is now here, and she's gearing up for her first attempt!

We're now getting through the lower rung of participants before we move on to participants who have marked a high attempt, including India's Mirabai Chanu.

To give context to why she's the clear favourite for gold, her first attempt mark in Snatch is listed at 80kg, while Clean & Jerk is at 105 kg.

Her next closest competitor - at least in terms of mark set - is at 70kg and 90kg respectively. That's quite some confidence, isn't it?
