Arsenal academy prospect Xavier Amaechi has signed his first professional contract with the club on his 17th birthday.

The Nigerian, who joined the club's youth ranks as a 12-year-old in 2013, has netted five times in four outings for the Gunners' U18 side this season.

Real Madrid failed in an eleventh-hour bid to hijack Phillipe Coutinho's move from Liverpool to Barcelona.

Real reportedly were ready to pay the Reds £177m for the Brazilian, eclipsing the £143m deal that Barca are expected to complete for the player on Monday, but Coutinho's determination to join the Catalan side put paid to any possible derailment.

Chelsea to consider making a move for Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Thorgan Hazard

Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Jannik Vestergaard is not for sale according to the Bundesliga outfit, scuppering any hope that Tottenham and Arsenal have been nurturing of landing the Dane in January.

Gladbach boss Max Eberl said: “We don’t intend to let anyone go during the winter.”

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has joked that he is waiting for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to call him and offer him a move.

In an interview with Brazilian TV channel, Globo Esporte said he was happy to hear of the reports. Laughing, he said: "I have not received it [a phone call] yet, I'm just eagerly waiting. He'll call me soon!"

Everton boss Sam Allardyce is targeting a £50m double swoop this month - with Alfie Mawson and Abdoulaye Doucouré on his radar.

WENGER PICKS HIS SUCCESSOR

Arsene Wenger is considering quitting this summer and has identified former Arsenal player, Mikel Arteta as his successor.

Schalke want Chelsea's Baba Rahman to return on loan, but they want to clarify his fitness before making an official bid. The left-back spent last season with the Bundesliga club although he only scored once.

Crystal Palace will renew their efforts to sign Everton striker Oumar Niasse this month.

The Eagles were close to signing the player in the summer but a deal could not be agreed, with the south London club set to return for his services in January.

Getafe are looking for replacements in goal before allowing Crystal Palace transfer target Vicente Guaita.

The 30-year-old has six months left on his contract and a buyout clause of €8m (£7m), but the Eagles only want to pay half of that.

West Ham are ready to offer £25m for Swansea centre-half Alfie Mawson.

Hammers are prepared to quadruple the 23-year-old’s £15,000-a-week wages in a bid to lure him to London, with the Swans wanting close to £40m for their player.

Barcelona are on the verge of signing Colombia international Yerry Mina.

Barca are now preparing to announce their next signing with the Catalan giants agreeing a €12m deal to sign the centre-back from Brazilian outfit Palmeiras.

The defender will be officially unveiled as a new Barcelona player in the next few days ahead of his presentation at the Camp Nou on Wednesday and will replace Javier Mascherano, who is poised to join Hebei China Fortune.

Inter Milan technical director Walter Sabatini has flown out to China to convince owners Suning Group to spend some money in January.

Their main transfer target is Javier Pastore, although they are also looking at Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Gerard Deulofeu and Ramires.

Manchester United will have competition from the Chinese Super League if Real Madrid sell Gareth Bale.

The newspaper reports CSL champions Guangzhou Evergrande are willing to meet Madrid's £85m asking price and are undeterred by his injury record.

Pep Guardiola will not give up on trying to tempt Giorgio Chiellini to the Etihad. The Juventus defender is seen as an alternative to Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti, who is also a Manchester City transfer target.

Eden Hazard is set to snub a move to Real Madrid and sign a deal that will make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.

Bordeaux, Nantes, OGC Nice, Real Betis & Manchester United are interested in signing PSG winger Lucas Moura.

The only problem is that PSG want to sell, while all the interested parties want a loan; of those sides, Lucas Moura is only interested in Manchester United

Real Madrid have been told it will cost £300m to sign Harry Kane!

The striker is thought to be on the La Liga club's radar and are considering selling Karim Benzema in the summer, but Tottenham will reportedly not accept anything less than the stated fee.

LIVERPOOL NOT IN FOR LEMAR

Liverpool's decision to allow Philippe Coutinho to join Barcelona will not bring forward any possible move for Thomas Lemar according to Sky Sports

The Monaco forward has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League, with rivals Arsenal also understood to have a strong interest in the 22-year-old.

Manchester City want Harry Maguire from Leicester and are ready to make an incredible £50m bid.

Pep Guardiola has been impressed with the defender and wants to bring in another centre-back that will be eligible to play in the Champions League.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino admits he has been in talks regarding the possible signing of Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.

"He is a good player, but I don't know with the negotiations, with the market, I imagine that this type of player would have a lot of possibility. For us it's not easy. Hopefully, we can bring somebody that can help us be stronger. This is our target now. We know the market is difficult, but we are working on that."

Jese Rodriguez has left Stoke City and is edging nearer to a return to Las Palmas.

The Spaniard, who joined Stoke from Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan last summer, has been released from his loan contract at the bet365 Stadium.

Newcastle, West Ham, Southampton and Celtic are all interested in signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge this month, who seeks first team football away from Anfield.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked once again with a move to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Gabon striker has previously attracted interest from the Far East and it is believed that the Chinese club are willing to pay for €72m (£63.8m) to secure his services in the summer.

Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri is likely to leave the French club this month and make a move to the Premier League.

However, it is reported Everton are no longer interested in the 26-year-old as they want to strengthen other areas of their team.

Newcastle are exploring a loan deal for PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Rafa Benitez is said to looking to bring in a top-level goalkeeper to bolster his back line in the second half of the season, while Trapp has been left on the sidelines for much of the campaign as Unai Emery prefers Alphonse Areola.

The forward, 22, joined Barcelona from Real Valladolid in a €3.4m (£30.1m) deal last summer and has predominantly featured for their reserve side Barca B. He has a €20m (£17.7m) buyout clause until 2020 and a €40m (£35.5m) buyout clause for the remainder of his contract until 2022.

Manchester United and Arsenal have joined the £30m battle for Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazil star Fred.
