59' Matic finds Martial with a lovely crossfield ball... the Frenchman teases Moreno and lefts the ball lazily into the box but Matip heads clear. He tries again, but this time Lovren gets it away

58' Henderson tries to play in Coutinho, but he'd telegraphed his intentions to Smalling and the United man sees the ball to De Gea's hands

57' OH MY GOOD LORD! That would have been such a calamitous mistake. From the throw-in, Liverpool work the ball along onto the other wing and Salah picks out Can's superb run with a lovely dink. All alone five ards out, with naught but keeper to beat, Can belts it into the Kop

56' Smalling and Herrera suffer an atrocious communications background that ends with the Englishman smashing the ball into the Spaniards shins and out for a throw

55' Coutinho has a pop from distance but he's closed down by Matic and Jones and the ball deflects off the latter and into the path of Wijnaldum, but under pressure from Smalling, the Dutchman can only find row Z in the Kop

49' Liverpool come haring back, Coutinho skipping past Herrera as if the latter were not there before playing in Firmino. The Liverpudlian striker smashes it toward the near post but it deflects off Vvelancia for a corner.

48' Coutinho turns Valencia in his own half and starts to get on his scooter but the Ecuadorian puts that to an end with blunt physicality.

47' OH JONES! CHANCE FOR LIVERPOOL! Jones plays the ball to Firmino who gratefully accepts it and releases Coutinho forward but the Brazilian's cut back to his compatriot finds the latter offside.

A see-saw match that oscillated from mind-numbingly boring to breathlessly exciting in the space of a few minutes, we have David De Gea's incredible reflexes and Romelu Lukaku's lax finishing to thank for this being goalless.
