Sanjoy Sen must now lift his players for this weekend's crucial I-League clash with Aizawl FC after a defeat that effectively puts paid to their hopes of progressing past the group stages of the AFC Cup.

It was a disappointing 90 minutes for Bagan, as they failed to break down a resolute Maziya defence. The Mariners started well, but poor defending in the 34th minute handed Mohamed Umair the chance to place the ball perfectly into the Bagan goal. Thereafter, Bagan barely created any clear-cut openings and credit must go to Maziya for keeping things tight at the back.

It's been pretty disappointing from Bagan so far with a second-string eleven. The Mariners have had the better half chances, but Maziya have got the lead. It will need a better second half display from the home side to have any chance of turning this game around. Still, 45 minutes is a long time in football.
