Good morning and welcome to the Sportskeeda liveblog of the 2017 China Open quarter-finals. Second seed and defending champion PV Sindhu faces Gao Fangjie of China for a place in the semi-finals.

While Sindhu is ranked second in the world, the Chinese is 89th. The 19-year-old is a qualifier at this tournament and progressed into the second round after the world champion Nozomi Okuhara retired in the first round.

In the pre-quarter-finals, the teenager produced a great performance to upset the 21st ranked Jang Mi Lee of Korea in straight games.

So, she is coming into this match with a lot of confidence and she obviously has nothing to lose. Besides, she will also have a lot of home support.

She might stretch Sindhu a bit but it surely won't be enough to stop the Indian. The World No. 2 is determined to get back her lost spark. She went off the boil since capturing her second Superseries title of the season in Korea in September.

At the French Open last month, she looked to be regaining some of that lost touch. But she didn't have much left in the tank against Akane Yamaguchi and slumped to a straight-games loss in the semi-finals.
