The Australian coach, Darren Lehmann says his team has to be flawless in their game in order to defeat India in the four-Test match series starting on 23rd of February in Pune. With an unimpressive record in the subcontinent, having never won a Test in India since 2002, Australia needs to gear up. Adding up to their plight, India has lost only a single Test series since then.
Lehmann said, “Everything’s going to have to go right, that’s a simple life fact. You’ve got to be really methodical, well prepared. Which they will be. We have to hold every catch, we fielded unbelievably in 2004 and we batted big, that’s the key.”
The Australian team has been using the video analysis techniques of Indian players as a preparation for the upcoming tour. With the Aussies preparing with the video analysis, they will have a better picture of the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents. With the tour being a challenge, the coach believes that playing pressure cricket for five days will be a key.
“Winning would mean a hell of a lot to a young group,” Lehmann added to finish off.
Back in 2001, Australia’s win was majorly due to the splendid performance from batsman Matthew Hayden where he thrashed a 549 runs in Australia’s 2-1 series loss. In 2004, the success of the team was because of the stunning performance from batsman Damien Martyn who scored two centuries in four-Test series.
This contribution made Lehmann believe that Australia needs a Martyn or Hayden sort of series to make enough runs.
