Siddle hopes Australia can cope without Starc

Mitchell Starc's injury was a big blow to Australia's chances but fast bowler Peter Siddle believes the rest of the bowlers have to step up to the plate. The right-arm fast bowler would himself have been in contention had it not been for a serious back injury that has ruled him out till next season.

Speaking about Starc's injury, Siddle said: "It's massive. One good factor is that there's not a lot of cricket this winter, so if anything does go wrong there's not much missed. But if it's a big injury then it's a lot to take in."

Siddle admitted that there will now be plenty of pressure on the rest of the bowling attack to make up for Starc's loss. Although he didn't concede Australia's chances of winning the series, he wasn't entirely confident either.

Siddle, however, realizes the enormity of the task at hand for the visitors' bowlers but he isn't ready to thrown in the towel as yet.

"I know (Starc) hasn't taken the ... wickets that he has in the past, but I think he's done a great job at the other end to build pressure for those guys to take wickets. Josh stepped up in the last Test match and hopefully he can continue on now with that form. The spinners have been very good. Those three are going to have to combine really well."

MS Dhoni set to miss Ranchi Test

MS Dhoni looks set to miss the third India-Australia Test at Ranchi that begins on March 16 courtesy of his involvement in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The former India captain is currently captaining the Jharkhand team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where his side will face Vidarbha in Delhi on March 15.

If Jharkhand make it through to the semi-final, the match is on March 17th, with the final of the competition a couple of days later on March 17th. Courtesy of Shahbaz' Nadeem's five-wicket haul in the final group game help Dhoni's side get to the knockouts.

The 35-year-old paid a visit to the stadium in Ranchi ahead of the third Test but if Jharkhand win their quarter-final, it seems unlikely that Dhoni will get to watch India play in Ranchi.
