Good evening and welcome to the Sportskeeda liveblog of the French Open Superseries 2017 First Round.

Eighth seed Srikanth Kidambi faces Fabian Roth of Germany for a place in the second round. While the Indian is eighth, the German is placed way below at 45th in the world rankings. This is their first meeting.

Srikanth could not have asked for an easier opponent in the first round of the French Open. He was initially drawn against Rajeev Ouseph but the 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medallist withdrew ahead of the competition.

Roth has come to this tournament with a five-match losing streak. In contrast, the Indian is now on a five-match winning streak after clinching his third Superseries title of the year in Denmark. If nothing else, his upset victory over the reigning world champion and World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen is enough proof that he has a lot of confidence and conviction in his abilities right now.

He already knows what it takes to win back-to-back Superseries titles in consecutive weeks as he has done it back in June when he triumphed in Indonesia and Australia.

Needless to say, Srikanth will be raring to go in Paris as he sets his sights on a fourth Superseries title of the season.
