The creeper head is a decorative block that was added to Minecraft in v1.4.2 in “The Pretty Scary Update”. The head can be worn like a helmet by the player but offers no protection. They can also be placed in the world to act as decoration.

The only way to obtain a creeper head is by making a creeper blow up and kill another creeper while doing so. When the charged-up creeper is killed by another creeper, it will die and drop a creeper head that can be now picked up by the player.
