Minecraft Heart of the Sea

There are 3 ways you can find the heart of the sea.

1. You can dig around sandy shores randomly and hope to run into a buried treasure chest.

2. Loot shipwrecks or ocean ruins in hopes of finding a map that leads you to buried treasure. 3. Finally, you can feed dolphin raw cod or raw salmon and they will lead you to the closest buried treasure, ocean ruins, or shipwreck.

Shipwrecks and ocean ruins can contain a treasure map that will lead you to an “X” on the map. Not every shipwreck or ocean ruin will have a treasure map, or even a chest to loot in the first place. Keep your eyes peeled for any generated structures down in the depths of oceans to find yourself a treasure map.

Once you have found the treasure map, hold it in your hot bar and select it. The map looks different than most maps, but it functions identically to a locator map. Look for the “X” on the map to figure out which direction you ought to head towards for the buried treasure.

Try to stand directly on the “X” to begin digging. You will most likely need to dig out quite a bit of space if you want to find the buried treasure.

Do not be discouraged if you cannot find one. Most likely you just need to dig out a wider and deeper hole to find the treasure. There are some unfortunate cases where the world generation does not generate the buried treasure chest correctly. In this case, you will need to start over. If you managed to find the buried treasure, open it up to claim your reward!

If you are looking to find the heart of the sea, it is easiest if you start with a shipwreck or an ocean ruin. While they are easier to find than a buried treasure chest, that does not mean they are necessarily common. Wandering aimlessly across an ocean is tedious work, luckily there are ways you can find an ocean ruin or shipwreck easily.

Start by swimming through an ocean until you find dolphins.

If you feed a dolphin raw cod or salmon, they will begin to swim quickly towards the nearest ocean ruin, shipwreck, or even buried treasure. Follow their trail to find whatever is closest.

Unfortunately, this ocean ruin had no chest for me to loot. Swim a good distance away from it and try to remember which direction it was facing. If you feed another dolphin and it starts swimming towards the same location, just move along. Eventually, your dolphin may stop swimming towards the location it had in mind. Feed it another fish to encourage it to continue guiding you.

This is an easy way to find more shipwrecks and ocean ruins without spending too much time wandering aimlessly.

The heart of the sea is used in one recipe, which is to build a conduit. To make a conduit you will need 1 heart of the sea and 8 nautilus shells. To obtain nautilus shells you can either kill drowned enemies that are holding a nautilus shell, you can fish up nautilus shells with a fishing rod, or trade with a wandering trader for a nautilus shell with 5 emeralds each.

Once you have gathered your nautilus shells and have located a heart of the sea you can craft a conduit at a crafting table. Just place the heart of the sea in the middle-most slot of the crafting menu and surround it with nautilus shells to be awarded with a conduit.

In order to utilize the conduit’s functions you need to have some prismarine blocks or sea lanterns. This means you will most likely need to conquer an ocean monument to obtain enough blocks. The arrangement required for the conduit needs to be built with water surrounding the conduit. Start by placing a cross of prismarine on the floor.

Raise up each of the 4 points with another block. Then place a ring around the tops of the 4 points. This will be the middle of the design.

Raise the 4 points up one more block with prismarine, and copy the cross arrangement from the bottom to finish the prismarine structure.

With all that taken care of, placing the conduit in the middle will now power the conduit. You can place a temporary block to raise the conduit to its appropriate spot. Remember to break it though, as the conduit needs to be completely surrounded with water source blocks. If you built the shell correctly, the conduit will be fully powered and provide you with water breathing, night vision, as well as attack any hostile mobs that come within the field of vision that the conduit has.

That is all you can make with the heart of the sea.

While the heart of the sea has relatively limited uses, its end result is well worth the trouble. If you are interested in living near the sea, or even building an underwater base, having a conduit nearby will remove almost all the tedium of working underwater. It can be troublesome to find the heart of the sea, especially if your world did not generate the buried treasure correctly. Stay diligent and keep trying to eventually get an underwater beacon.

What can you Use a Heart of the Sea for in Minecraft?

Other than using it as a trophy, the heart of the sea has one practical use. You can use a heart of the sea and 8 nautilus shells to build a conduit. This grants you many beneficial effects while you are within range and in water. Even if it is raining, if you are within range of the conduit you will gain the night vision buff and be able to breathe underwater.

Do you have to find a Buried Treasure Map to find the Treasure?

You do not have to find the map to find the treasure. In fact, if you gather sand around coastlines and sandy shores you can expect to find a buried treasure chest eventually. The chest does not spawn when you open the map, the chest spawns during the world generation.

How can you easily find a Shipwreck, Ocean Ruins, or Buried Treasure?

If you feed a dolphin raw cod or raw salmon, they will begin to swim towards the closest shipwreck, ocean ruins, or buried treasure (whichever is closest). Since buried treasure is the rarest of these options, try to feed the dolphins fish when you are close to land to ensure that they have a chance to lead you to buried treasure.
