How to find Elytra in Minecraft: Step by Step Guide

Did you know you can fly in Minecraft if you have beaten the final boss, the Ender Dragon? Players can find a rare chest piece which allows them to naturally fly around without need of cheat or modification. These totally vanilla items allow the player to traverse in a totally new way. When players have the Elytra equipped, they can double press the jump key in order to activate this flying feature.

This chest piece does have durability just like any other, and must be repaired. One way to keep an Elytra handy is to enchant it with Mending, which allows itself to repair over time using the xp the player receives during battle. These items are very handy and can be a ton of fun to play around with.

How to get to the End City in Minecraft?

To get to the End City in Minecraft, you will need the following:

  1. Eye of Ender

These can be crafted from Enderman drops.

How to find Elytras in Minecraft?

In a Nutshell:

Find an End Portal and go through it. Search for an Elytra and equip it to enable flying!

Step-by-Step Guide (with Pictures):

Step 1- Begin hurling your Eyes of Ender and follow them. You will need to pick them up, throw them again, and follow the trajectory of each toss. You can follow the trail for some time before needing to recalibrate.

Often, these Strongholds are found in the middle of the ocean.

Step 2- Once your Eyes of Ender stop floating upwards, you know that you are approaching the stronghold. At this point, you can stop throwing them and start looking manually for the fortress. It will be an obvious structure compared to the bare sea floor.

Step 3- Once inside the fortress, keep your wits about you and search for the portal to the End. Be careful not to die, as enemies can spawn in this place.

You are searching for a room full of lava. Beware of that, too!

Step 4- Once you have located the room with lava in it, you will notice a floating ring above the lava. It may be tempting to jump in, but do not do this just yet!

A mostly incomplete End Portal.

Step 5- To travel to the End dimension, you must complete the portal using the Eyes of Ender that guided you here in the first place. Simply press the use key on each of the eyeless slots to complete the portal.

Once the portal is complete, simply jump through it.

Step 6- Once in the end, you will notice a giant dragon with a huge health bar. You need to slay this dragon and receive the “Free the End” achievement.

Step 7- This fight is hard. Make use of armor, ranged weapons, and bring plenty of food if you wish to finish this beast once and for all.

When you see purple glowing lights, you know you have beaten the Ender Dragon.

Step 8- Now that the fight is over, all that is left is to traverse to an End City. These cannot be found save from a single, inconspicuous location: Inside this floating rock shown below. The only way to actually get inside of End Cities is by throwing an Ender Pearl the center of this mass, like so:

Make sure it lands exactly in the center.

Step 9- You have teleported to the outskirts of the End. This place is mostly barren, so begin looking for the pink roof of an End City.

Step 10- Once you find an End City as shown below, you may be wondering how to get inside:

Step 11- Well, just like when trying to get to this randomly generated area, the End City can be accessed through teleportation by throwing Ender Pearls in one of the windows!

Congratulations, you have made it to the End City.

Finding an Elytra:

You may find an End City to be rather barren. Look carefully, however, as many of the strange denizens of this city disguise themselves among the architecture. Your first clue to finding these enemies is when they attack; you will notice flying projectiles that deal damage and force you to float. Trace these projectiles back to the source and you may just find the culprit.

You can spot these creatures when they pop out of their Shulker Boxes. These enemies are referred to as Shulkers! They can pack quite a punch, and must be dealt with before their projectiles overwhelm the player.

As a reward, players will notice all chests in the End Cities are considerably more stacked than the regular variants. These chests will contain all kinds of treasures, even sometimes containing completely unique items.

Finally, characters may notice a strange item frame containing an item they have never seen before. This item, shown below, is an Elytra, and is an incredibly rare item that allows the player to fly just by having it equipped.

Once equipped, this cape-like entity will help you glide when you double press the jump button. Congratulations, you have found Elytra! Equip it on the Chest slot of your armors.

FAQs

Q.Is the End City infinite in Minecraft?

Yes. While the original End area is not randomly generated at all, the End City is different in that it is entirely randomly generated. You can find enough Elytras for all your friends in Minecraft here. You may have to continue exploring and generating new portions of the City to find these Elytras.

Conclusion

The End City is a must-visit destination on the tour of all that Minecraft has to offer. Near the end of the game, players will find that they will need higher quality loot, and often multiple copies of items as a backup. While it may take a while to find enough, having an Elytra for each member of your Minecraft party can be a lot of fun, and will save you time in the end.
