Cake, although not the most practical food source, is a great block that was added into Minecraft back in 2011.
It was a block promised to the players of the game by the maker, Notch, as a reward for if the game won the Indie Game Awards of that year. Lo and behold, it is now one of the most recognisable blocks that has ever been in Minecraft.
It acts as a placeable food source that fills 14 hunger points, or 7 full bars of hunger, making it one of the most saturating foods in the game.

It is a lot easier to make a cake once you have established even the smallest of farms for yourself, as you do need an egg to make it.
Firstly, you will need a crafting table. To make it convert logs into wooden planks.
To make wooden planks, simply place the logs that were collected into one of the slots in the survival inventory crafting table, as demonstrated below.

Once you have made your crafting table, you can begin to collect your ingredients.
As stated previously, it would be easier to make a cake once you have established a farm, but it is not required.
You must first get an egg. Eggs are laid by chickens every 5-10 minutes, so if you either capture a chicken in a fenced-off farm or follow a chicken around for long enough, you will get an egg.
Next you need to collect your milk. To collect milk, you must first make a bucket. To make a cake, you need 3 buckets.
Buckets are made with three pieces of iron in a v-formation in a crafting table, as shown below.
Once you have your 3 buckets, you can acquire your milk by right-clicking a cow with a bucket. You can either find a cow in your world, or get the milk from one that you’ve captured for your farm.
Next you must get your sugar. Sugar can be made by placing a piece of sugar cane into a crafting table. To make a cake, two pieces of sugar are necessary.
Sugar cane grows up to three blocks tall anywhere in the world near water. It can be found in almost every biome, as it grows on sand, dirt, podzol, gravel, and more blocks.
The final step of the preparation process is that you have to get your wheat.
Sometimes it’s easier to get wheat from a village farm if you haven’t made your own farm yet, but you can always make your own farm by hoeing the ground and placing your seeds.
Finally you can put your cake together.
To make a cake, open the crafting area made up of the 3x3 grid. Place 3 buckets of milk in the first row, then fill up the third row with wheat. As for the remaining three boxes, place sugar on either side of the second row and an egg in the center to finish making a cake. Now simply click the cake and drag it into your inventory.

Open Crafting table, place the wheat to fill the bottom row of the crafting GUI. Next, place your three buckets of milk along the top row of the crafting GUI. Place the egg in the direct center, and use the sugar to fill in the final two open slots beside the egg.
