Minecraft Logs

Logs are obtained from trees, and many different varieties ranging from biome to biome, but they share the same purpose. There are nine main types: Oak, Birch, Spruce, Dark Oak, Acacia, and Jungle, Warped, Crimson and Mangrove. Once you have decided upon the type of log you want, you need to find that tree in your Minecraft world. Craft an axe, and move towards the tree to harvest logs at a faster rate than by your hands. Logs do not occur in many crafting recipes; however, after being converted into planks they become a fundamental aspect of several recipes, including the famous crafting table.

In Survival Mode, much of the initial gameplay depends solely on this resource as a player has to start harvesting logs to make any advancement since they pave the paths for crafting tools, items, etc.

How do you get Logs Step by Step in Minecraft?

Step 1: Choose a Log

Since there are various types of logs available to you, there are various options for you to choose from. However, the difference matters only in a few applications, with the most popular being the construction of buildings where different textures have the potential to spruce up the appearance. In contrast, tools will have the same texture regardless of the type of log used making the effort to specifically locate them futile.

Step 2: Find the tree

Once you have decided upon the type of log you want, you now need to find that tree in your Minecraft world. For example, you will have to find an Oak tree for harvesting Oak logs. Oak trees are usually found in the Forest, Extreme Hills, Swampland or Mesa Plateau biomes.

If you have trouble finding a certain type of tree, unfortunately there is no easy answer. You simply need to explore more. Utilize traveling with Elytra, creating nether highways and riding a horse to cover a lot of ground quickly.

Step 3: Start chopping

Once you have crafted an axe. Equip it and move towards the trees. Although, it is worth mentioning that initially, trees will have to be chopped by hand since no alternate options will be available. The only difference between chopping with a hand and an axe is the speed of producing logs. With an axe, it's faster and more efficient.

By now, you have found a tree and have an axe equipped. All that’s left is chopping down the tree by holding the left-click button. Continue chopping till the log breaks and floats about as a pick-able item.

Crafting:

Logs do not occur in many crafting recipes. However, after being converted into planks they become a part of a ton of recipes. The most common recipe dedicated entirely to wooden planks is the Crafting Table. Without the crafting table itself, half of the items in Minecraft wouldn’t be available to us.

Apart from the Crafting Table, another important product from planks are sticks. Sticks are the building block for many items such as rails, signs, torches, as well as most tools without which progressing in Survival Multiplayer isn’t possible. Items crafted from planks are mentioned in the table below along with the number of logs needed.

Fuel:

Wood will smelt 1.5 items per block of wood. It is recommended to break your logs down into planks first as logs and planks have identical smelting values. One log can cook 6 items if you break it down into planks first. Considering wood is renewable, this can be a cheap way to smelt your items if you are low on coal.

FAQs

Q. What is the rarest wood in Minecraft?

A. The rarest wood comes down to which biome is the rarest for your own world. Objectively, warped wood and crimson wood is much harder to get as these trees will only naturally spawn in the nether.

Q. Can you turn planks back into logs?

Apart from using the many available mods, there is no legible way to turn planks back into logs. However, it shouldn’t be much of a big deal since trees are in abundance throughout the map and can be easily chopped.

Q. How many items can a wood plank smelt?

A. You can smelt 1.5 items per wooden plank.

Q. What is the best fuel source in Minecraft?

A. Wooden slabs are by far the best and most efficient fuel in Minecraft for the simple reason that you can make a lot of them out of just a few logs. 3 logs make 12 planks, which in turn create 24 wooden slabs, which all burn for 1.5 seconds. This means just 3 logs give you 360 seconds of burning time or a little over 1/3 of the burning time of a lava bucket.
