The torch is a utility item that is used most commonly for lighting dark spaces since it is one of the simplest placeable sources of light, as it is quite easy to craft. They are non-solid blocks which mean players and mobs can walk through them.

Torches are naturally generated in a lot of structures such as villages, mineshafts, igloos, woodland mansions, etc. They can be picked up by simply breaking them as any tool or hand will break them instantly and they will drop as an item. Torches can be crafted easily by using a stick with either a piece of coal or charcoal. By arranging them in the way shown below you can craft torches yourselves.
