You only need three pieces of cobblestone and to get that, you have to mine three pieces of stone in a cave. Caves are lined with stone so it shouldn’t be difficult at all to get stone. The stone in a cave will be any of the gray blocks that you see below.
Once you have obtained three cobblestones, and of course two sticks, you can head back to your crafting table. Each pickaxe has the same recipe but you just have to switch the crafting material. In this case, instead of wooden planks, you are using cobblestone blocks. You can use the recipe below to craft a stone pickaxe.
Now that you have your stone pickaxe, you need to go back into your cave and what you are looking for is one block of iron ore. Iron ore can only be mined by a stone pickaxe or any pick above a stone pickaxe. Once you have mined your iron ore, you need to smelt it into an iron ingot. The fourth way to get a crossbow is from the natural generation. There are currently two naturally generated areas that have a chance of having crossbows. The first is a bastion remnant. Bastion remnants are large structures that spawn in the Nether. They normally look like castles. The second is from pillager outposts. Pillager outposts normally spawn in the overworld in many different biomes like plains, deserts, taigas, and savannahs.
The fifth way to get a crossbow is from trading. There are two ways in each version of Minecraft to get a crossbow from trading. The first way to obtain a crossbow from trading is available in both Java and Bedrock editions. If you find a fletcher villager, they have the chance to sell an unenchanted crossbow in exchange for three emeralds. In bedrock edition, a master-level fletcher villager has a chance of selling an enchanted crossbow for eight emeralds. In Java Edition, master-level fletcher villagers have a chance of selling an enchanted crossbow for anywhere between seven to 22 emeralds.
