Conor McGregor recently revealed, in a highly awaited announcement, that he will be coming back to fight in the UFC next year.

McGregor revealed that he will return to the UFC on 18th January 2020, clearly indicating that he still has a lot to prove to the MMA world.

In this article, we take a look at three things that Conor McGregor wants to achieve in 2020 in the UFC.

#3 Win for the first time in 3 years

Conor McGregor has been away from the Octagon for an extremely long time. Over the last three years, he has fought in the Octagon only once, in a losing cause against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The last time that Conor McGregor won a fight was way back in 2016 when he got the better of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. On that occasion, he made history by becoming the first-ever UFC Champion to hold belts in two divisions at the same time.

Following his win against Nate Diaz, McGregor had regained his UFC Featherweight title and after UFC 205, he became the Lightweight Champion as well.

McGregor would then venture out of the UFC and fight Floyd 'Money' Mayweather Jr. in a Boxing match, which he lost in the 10th round, although he did manage to last longer than most people had imagined. When he finally returned to the UFC Octagon, it was against Khabib Nurmagomedov for the Lightweight title in one of the most hyped fights in years.

Unfortunately for him, on this occasion, he not only lost, but was also forced to tap out by Khabib.

As a result, his first and foremost goal right now is to return on January 18 and pick up a victory, which would his first in a long, long time.

#2 Fight the winner of the BMF title fight

Conor McGregor has been vociferous in his opinion that he is the true BMF, and has even suggested that he was the one who designed the BMF title.

Despite sudden controversy surrounding Nate Diaz's positive drug test, the UFC 244 main event will take place on November 2, as Jorge Masvidal battles Diaz for the BMF title.

Both men are coming off impressive wins in their previous bouts. Nate Diaz was able to defeat Anthony Pettis via Unanimous Decision, while Jorge Masvidal made headlines with his victory over Ben Askren.

Masvidal started off the year by shutting down Darren Till in fine fashion, and then destroyed Askren, handing the former ONE Championship fighter his first-ever career defeat in a matter of 5 seconds.

If McGregor is able to fight the winner of this contest, then he will be sending a message to not only the fans but to the UFC roster as well, indicating that he still belongs among these men.

McGregor and Diaz already share history between themselves, while Masvidal and McGregor could light up the Octagon if they were to be booked in a fight together.

#1 Battle Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor has expressed his desire to face the winner of a potential fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov, but anyone who is familiar with the Irishman's history will know that he is looking for a rematch against the Dagestani fighter.

Having been made to tap out in humiliating fashion, McGregor's pride took a beating and that is something that he values extremely highly. He has a lot to prove on his return and there already exists plenty of bad blood between the two fighters.

During the conference in which he announced that he would be returning, McGregor spoke about his plan to fight Khabib, stating that he would forego alcohol and enter the fight sharp and fresh without injuries.

"I will be sharp and fresh. I will have no injuries. I will have no alcohol. I will have no outside influences. And we will settle it once and for all."

This version of McGregor is not the same as the one that entered the Octagon against Khabib for the first time at UFC 229. He is far more focused and wants to fight Khabib once and for all to settle things between them .
