Season 30 is expected to feature heavyweights and women's flyweights. What makes the show so appealing is the choice of coaches. The UFC selects coaches that have an upcoming fight in the works as a way to drum up extra interest.

As soon as the season was made official, there was speculation on who would be coaching on this milestone season. Based on recent events, it looks like the promotion should have Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington should be considered for the coaching roles. This list will look at 5 reasons why Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington should coach TUF 30.

#5. Personal animosity carrying over to TUF

Kicking off this list of reasons why Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington should coach TUF 30 is the animosity between the two. The animosity between former American Top Team teammates and best friends would follow the trend that's made past TUF seasons successful.

It's not uncommon for the UFC to select two coaches who dislike one another. In fact, some of TUF's most entertaining and successful seasons have been those that featured two coaches involved in a heated rivalry.

When there's been strong animosity between the two coaches, it's led to some of the show's most memorable interactions. Past rivalries featured on TUF include Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock, Rashad Evans vs. 'Rampage' Jackson, and Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva.

It'd be interesting to see how their animosity translates to television. The rivalry between Masvidal and Covington is personal, so anything could happen on TUF. Fans have seen it all in past seasons of TUF.

Coaches have had arguments, confrontations, and even fights on the show. With Masvidal-Covington being so personal, the slightest comment may set the other fighter off.

#4. More exposure for fighters competing on TUF

Another reason why Masvidal and Covington should coach TUF 30 is that they would provide more exposure for the fighters competing. With the animosity between the two coaches being the selling point, viewers will also get to know the fighters' backstories.

The UFC are constantly on the lookout for new fighters that could become marque stars for them. Having coaches like Masvidal and Covington involved with the show could help expedite that process. Under the tuteldge of their respective coaches, many fighters could end up becoming hot commodities for the promotion when TUF concludes.

With that in mind, the heavyweight and women's flyweight divisions could gain a boost in popularity following TUF 30. This formula has worked for the UFC in the past. TUF 10: Heavyweights featured high-profile coaches Rashad Evans and 'Rampage' Jackson, multiple fighters gained a following as a result.

Matt Mitrione and Brendan Schaub arguably benefited most from participating that season. The two weren't already known to the MMA community like Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson. However, they took advantage of their participation on TUF and had some success during their careers, and in Schaub's case, post-career success as well.

#3. Coaches could display their showmanship on TUF

The showmanship put on display by the coaches is another reason why Masvidal and Covington should coach TUF 30. If both Masvidal and Covington coach TUF 30, the UFC would have both coaches bringing persona to the show.

Covington's heel persona still angers and offends a large portion of the fanbase, which plays right into his hands. 'Chaos' has been able to anger fans to the point where they'll tune in just to see him lose. Since taking on his persona, it has done wonders for his career thus far. Regardless of how fans view it, it's led to a lucrative career and there's no sign of him stopping anytime soon.

Masvidal being a promoter will come in handy during the season as well. 'Gamebred' promotes the bare-knuckle MMA promotion Gamebred Fighting Championship and could use those skills to promote the fighters on his team. Masvidal and Covington going back-and-forth promoting their respective fighters for each bout could be great bonus material for TUF.

#2. Bragging rights for the winning coach

Another reason why Masvidal and Covington should coach TUF 30 is because of the bragging rights involved with having the winning team.

Masvidal and Covington dislike one another so much that they'd likely be a lot more motivated to coach the winning team. The thought of being able to brag about having the best team may be too good to pass up. The winning coach will definitely bring up the TUF results during the press conferences leading up to their eventual fight.

It'd be interesting to see how Masvidal and Covington coach and prepare their respective teams. Both fighters will want the bragging rights of having the winning team. In order to do so, they'll need to get the most out of each fighter. Both Masvidal and Covington had to make changes in their difficult climbs to the top of the UFC welterweight division. Both fighters could use their journey to the UFC as a way to inspire their fighters.

Masvidal changed his approach in fights, which served him well and saw him knockout top contenders. Covington, on the other hand, has admitted that creating a persona is what led to him getting opportunities in the UFC. With the knowledge both fighters have gained during their careers, it'd be intriguing to see who the better coach would be.
