6 MMA fighters who should compete in the Elimination Chamber

It would be a treat to see Jones in the Chamber

As we come off WWE’s latest PPV – Elimination Chamber – where The Eater of World, Bray Wyatt, finally captured his first WWE Title, we can’t help but want more of that action. It was probably the best Elimination Chamber match of all-time, far eclipsing the mediocre matches that have taken place inside Satan’s Prison in recent years.

But, this great match has also got us thinking about how the Elimination Chamber would affect proceedings in an MMA sense. Which fighters are best equipped to handle the monstrous prison? Which fighters have the biggest grudges that can be decided inside the Chamber?

With that in mind, today we take a look at the six men from the world of mixed martial arts who can make the perfect transition from the Octagon cage to the elaborate cage around the squared circle.

So, without further ado, here are 6 fighters who should compete in the Elimination Chamber:

#6 Jon Jones

Jones is one of those fighters who will feel right at home inside the WWE’s steel structure

We start off with one of the most dominant MMA fighters of all-time, Jon Jones. Bones is perhaps the most naturally gifted fighter of his generation, easily able to adapt his style as the situation dictates.

With his natural power, speed, and understanding of the fight game, Jones is one of those fighters who will feel right at home inside the WWE’s steel structure. To add to this, his charisma and will to impress will fit in without the opportunity for jaw-dropping spots.

Jones is also equally comfortable in dealing with opponents of different sizes – something which is a must when you consider a tricky prospect such as putting six different MMA fighters together in a WWE style match.

In addition to all of these pros, Jones is also great at grappling and wrestling. And the cherry on top – which will also bring us nicely to our next entrant – is his rivalry with Daniel Cormier. Theirs is a rivalry that deserves to be settled inside the Chamber.

#5 Daniel Cormier

Cormier vs Jones is the MMA version of a WWE feud

Riding off the last point, Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have been engaged in a heated rivalry ever since Bones took apart DC in a phenomenal showcase of wrestling – something that Cormier is famed for. The grudge between these two is real.

DC’s claim to fame is his elite-level wrestling which has made him one of the most dominant people to step foot inside the Octagon. His ability to take down power-punchers such as Anthony Rumble Johnson has ensured that the only man who can stand against Cormier in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division these days is Jones.

Another thing that really works in Cormier’s favour is that he is a huge pro-wrestling fan and would just jump at the opportunity to work in something like the Elimination Chamber which enables him to leave his mark in the WWE.

#4 Stephen Thompson

That right there is why Wonderboy would be perfect for the WWE

Stephen Thompson is probably one of the most flamboyant fighters on the UFC roster today. Famed for his unorthodox karate-style approach to MMA, Wonderboy has made a name for himself as one of the most unpredictable strikers in the world.

With his incredible range of kicks and incredible athleticism, the Elimination Chamber would provide Wonderboy with the perfect platform on which to showcase his highlight-reel clips to the world of pro-wrestling. Having improved his ground game as well, there’s no question that Thompson has to be a lock for any potential MMA-styled Chamber match.

To top it all off, he has been engaged in quite a bitter rivalry with current UFC Welterweight Champion, Tyron Woodley. The two had an incredible majority-draw encounter at UFC 205 that needs to be settled in a rematch. Where better than the Elimination Chamber?

#3 Tyron Woodley

The Woodley vs Thompson rivalry has hit fever pitch

Speaking of the Stephen Thompson vs. Tyron Woodley rivalry, we come to our next entrant – The Chosen One, himself. Woodley has fast made a name for himself as a dominant Welterweight who is equally comfortable with striking and wrestling.

The current champ has a lot of beef with what he perceives as a lack of respect from the community and the UFC itself despite his status as World Champion leaving him with a massive chip on his shoulder.

It is this chip and his incredible skill inside the Octagon, combined with the Wonderboy rivalry that makes Tyron Woodley the fourth name on our list.

#2 Nate Diaz

This could well be a potential image if Diaz steps foot inside the Elimination Chamber

Entering at number five on our list is Nate Diaz. The younger Diaz brother has experienced a sharp upturn in fortunes since his shock victory over Conor McGregor when he stepped is a replacement for Rafael dos Anjos in the 11th hour.

His second fight against McGregor – which he lost via unanimous decision – has only made Diaz’s star grow brighter. With an inevitable third match on the horizon, where better to do it than inside the Elimination Chamber?

His boxing background coupled with his capacity to never go down under intense punishment, also make Diaz an ideal competitor inside the WWE’s steel structure.

#1 Conor McGregor

There’s a reason why he’s the most marketable fighter in the world today

Who else was it going to be? If there’s any one MMA fighter that WWE fans want to see inside the squared circle, it is Conor McGregor. The Irishman has reached legendary levels of stardom in his career as a fighter and it would only further enhance his reputation if he stepped foot in the Elimination Chamber.

We all know about McGregor’s skills as an elite-level MMA striker but more than this, it is the heated rivalry with Nate Diaz as well as the teased super fight with Tyron Woodley which would really hype this match up.

On top of all these things, with the constant trolling McGregor has dished out in the general direction of the WWE and pro-wrestling in general, it would only gain The Notorious One, even more notoriety to come down and compete in a WWE ring.
