ONE strawweight contender Danial Williams has managed to keep his ear to the pulse of the divisions that he competes in.

Whilst his primary focus over the last 12 months has been competing in MMA, Williams has tried to stay up to date with all of the various martial arts disciplines as he aims to compete for world championships in all of them.

His ability to transition from MMA back into striking-only rulesets will be massively beneficial for him at ONE Fight Night 8 this weekend, as he takes a late notice fight. He'll be stepping into the main event to take on Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the flyweight kickboxing world championship.

ONE Championship has hosted a huge amount of fights this year already, largely thanks to their ONE Friday Fights series live from the legendary Lumpinee Stadium.

In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Danial Williams said that while he isn’t always able to watch the fights, he makes sure to keep an eye on the results so that he is still in touch with the strawweight happenings, regardless of martial arts discipline.

Danial Williams said:

“I usually have an early night on Fridays. But yeah, I've definitely seen quite a few of the fights. I always try to keep an eye on the strawweight division when there are fights at strawweight. I know that there are a lot of Thais. Probably the average weight in Thailand is strawweight. I try to keep an eye on that.”

At ONE Fight Night 8, Danial Williams was set to return to his striking routes in a contest with Portugal’s Rui Botelho.

After the announcement that Rodtang Jitmaungnon would no longer be able to compete against Superlek Kiamtoo9 in the main event, ONE Championship knew exactly who to call.

After climbing his way up the strawweight MMA rankings, March 24 was set to be Williams’s first Muay Thai contest since his ONE debut against Rodtang that announced him to the fans.

In an incredible coincidence for the Aussie fighter, his second striking-exclusive fight under the ONE banner will also be for a world championship as he attempts to dethrone ‘The Kicking Machine’ in his first title defense.

Whilst that is far easier said than done, one thing that you can guarantee each and every time ‘Mini T’ steps inside the circle is that you’re in for an entertaining fight. Regardless of how people think this match-up will go down, Superlek will be in for a fight one way or another on Friday night.

ONE Fight Night 8 is live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 24. The entire event will also air live and for free via Prime Video for North American viewers.
