Nico Carrillo has proven himself during his time in ONE Championship to be one of the most dangerous contenders around.

His rise up the bantamweight Muay Thai division has been defined by one thing, the power that he brings to the table which can end a fight at any moment.

This wouldn't be nearly as significant if the Scottish striker didn't have the skill and experience that allowed him to consistently land his most devastating weapons.

Carrillo is a finisher by nature and once he smells blood, he's not afraid to open up and let his strikes go to try and end the night early.

However, he also knows that it's not wise to get carried away and lose his composure at any point, especially when he's facing high-level opponents in ONE.

During a recent appearance on the Leather'd Podcast, 'King of the North' spoke about knowing when to put his foot to the floor and when to fight smart:

"I think there's just a time and a place to do it and not to do it and that probably, you know yourself, just comes with experience."

This will be crucial in the biggest fight in the career of Nico Carrillo

In order for Nico Carrillo to get his hand raised next time out, he must show that he has the fight IQ to perfectly walk that line.

At ONE 170 on January 24, he will challenge Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

We saw in Superlek's title-winning performance at ONE 168 this past September how dangerous he can be against opponents that make bad decisions.

He perfectly countered an engaged from Jonathan Haggerty with an elbow that ended the fight in less than a minute.

Carrillo is a serious contender, but if he's going to beat the champion, he'll need to be one step ahead of him.
