UFC News: Conor McGregor set to make his return and headline UFC 246

As per an initial report from Brett Okamoto of ESPN, former two-division UFC World Champion Conor McGregor has agreed to make his return to the Octagon on the 18th of January in the headliner of UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone.

Conor McGregor's last fight in the Octagon

Conor McGregor last competed in the Octagon at UFC 229 when 'The Notorious One' stepped back into the cage for the first time since his historic title win over Eddie Alvarez. Upon his return to the cage, McGregor was destroyed by Khabib Nurmagomedov in their UFC Lightweight Championship bout and it has now been almost over a year since we saw the Irishman step back into a UFC Octagon.

McGregor vs Cerrone set for UFC 246

UFC President Dana White has reportedly revealed the news that former UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor will be making his return to the Octagon on 18th January and for his first fight back, 'The Notorious One' will compete in the UFC Welterweight Division in the headliner of UFC 246 against Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone.

The news was initially broken by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, who made the following announcement on Twitter:

This will be the Irishman's first fight in almost over a year, whereas, Cerrone, who had initially teased a fight with McGregor a few months ago, will be stepping back into the cage in hope of securing a big win against The Notorious One.
