UFC News: Jorge Masvidal's head coach does not want him to fight Colby Covington

Nothing sells like bad blood in the UFC and if the beef is between two teammates turned rivals, it immediately sets the matchmakers' tongues wagging. Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington is a match-up made in heaven given their past history and the animosity they share but Mike Brown, head coach of Masvidal and former coach of Covington does not want the former teammates to make each other bleed.

In an interaction with MMA Fighting, Brown said that he does not like the idea of watching the pair of American Top Team trainees lock horns because it is bad for the gym.

“The Covington thing is complex because it’s another guy who comes out of [American Top Team] so it has more complexities. I don’t necessarily like the idea of guys fighting each other. It doesn’t bother Jorge at all but I would prefer not to see that. I don’t necessarily like two American Top Team guys fighting each other. There’s a lot of complexities to it. Yeah, it’s a good problem to have but not necessarily great for the gym.”

Brown believes that Masvidal and Covington belong from the same family and although they will probably not train together, they are still teammates and will not fight one another.

“It’s a very tight family but it’s also very big. Sometimes with families not everybody loves each other. Not everybody’s close.”

Masvdal and Covington were good friends and used to train with each other but their relationship turned sour recently after they started badmouthing each other at press conferences and now, the pair don't look each other in the eye.

Masvidal fought Nate Diaz at the main event of UFC 244 and emerged victorious, being crowned the first ever 'BMF' champion while Colby Covington is slated to go up against the UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman in the headliner at UFC 245.
