Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has hinted that he may be ready to call time on his illustrious MMA career.

We last saw Rockhold in action in July at UFC 239, where he suffered a devastating knock-out loss at the hands-on Jan Blachowicz. During a recent conversation with MMA FIghting Rockhold suggested that may be the last time we ever see him compete inside of the cage...

“My head is content where I’m at right now. I’ve done a lot of things in the sport. I’m not trying to be a headline maker. I’m not trying to say I’m going to retire and then want to come back. I don’t like to close doors on things in life. Right now, I’m just happy not fighting. It feels good to focus on other things.”

Rockhold was very deliberate in his decision to not officially announce retirement, so clearly a final decision has not been made by Rockhold and his team. However, history will tell you that when a fighter begins to question their future in mixed martial arts, it is usually best that they walk away from the sport.

Should he decide to retire, Rockhold will have no shortage of options outside of the MMA world. He already has a lucrative modeling contract with Ralph Lauren and has recently started to dip his toe into the world of acting.

If Rockhold is unable to rediscover his passion for fighting, it goes without saying that the MMA community will look back fondly and celebrate what has been a truly fantastic career.
