Paul Felder is rising through the ranks of the Lightweight division. Given that he is on a five-fight win streak, it seems inevitable that a loss will come at some point, whether it's against Dan Hooker in New Zealand or the fight after that.

While an Edson Barboza rematch was on the cards, it seems as though UFC has moved on from the idea of a trilogy and has instead decided to go with Felder vs Hooker as a headliner for Auckland.

Felder's manager Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment confirmed to MMA Fighting that when agreeing to the bout against Dan Hooker, The Irish Dragon also signed a new deal with the UFC that will last multiple fights. The website further stated:

While details surrounding the deal were not revealed, Butler says that the new contract came along with the bout agreement to face Hooker in February and the veteran lightweight was “very happy” with the terms.

It's good that Felder is happy with the contract that he signed. He also has a commentary role with the UFC and will likely reprise that as well. He joined the growing list of fighters who have become analysts and is quite good at his role as well.

The fight against Dan Hooker is extremely important for both fighters going forward. If Hooker wins, he can secure the fight against Dustin Poirier that he has wanted so bad and if Felder wins, you would imagine that he would be only a win away from a title shot. Both men have a lot on the line and we are virtually guaranteed fireworks.

Not only will both men do their best to win, but both are known to be entertaining in the Octagon, so it's going to be a fun one to watch.
