After earning back-to-back playoff wins at New Hampshire and Dover, Kyle Busch suffered back-to-back, race-ending crashes, leaving him on the outside looking in before next Sunday's cutoff race at Kansas.

Busch wasn't the only playoff driver to crash out of Talladega. Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Kevin Harvick, Chase Elliott, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray, Ryan Blaney, Jimmie Johnson, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. all suffered damage in some form as 15 caution flags waved in the Alabama 500 Sunday.

Brad Keselowski joined Truex as drivers to punch their ticket to the Round of 8 with Sunday's win but teammates Busch and Kenseth have work to do at Kansas if they are to advance.

2017 NASCAR playoff rules

"Win and you're in." Just like regular-season races, winners move on to the next round. The remaining playoff events will feature stage racing, with playoff bonus points up for grabs that drivers can take to the next round.

Points are reset before the Round of 12 and Round of 8. The Championship 4 drivers will race straight up at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the title.

At Kansas Oct. 22, four drivers will be eliminated from the playoffs based on points, then again at Phoenix Nov. 12 until four drivers remain.
