Furniture Row Racing confident Martin Truex Jr. will re-sign, report says
Furniture Row Racing is increasingly confident that it will be able to renew its deals with driver Martin Truex Jr. and engine manufacturer Toyota for the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season, SportsBusiness Daily reported Wednesday, citing unidentified sources.
The report was quick to point out that it was unclear how FRR would fund the deal in the wake of 5-hour Energy's decision not to return as a primary sponsor after the 2018 season.
That decision has led to speculation about whether Truex would be back with the team next year.
According to SportsBusiness Daily, Furniture Row Racing "has been actively pitching sponsors on joining or stepping up with the team next year." Team owner Barney Visserhad has made it clear that he doesn't want to dip into his own money to sponsor the team anymore.
The defending Cup Series champion, Truex is locked in a fierce battle this year with former champions Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick. With two races to go before NASCAR's 10-race playoff begins, Truex is in third place behind those two in both the points standings and in playoff points. He has four wins in 24 starts this year.
