William Byron, 19, to take over Hendrick's No. 5 Chevy, reports say
A three-time winner this year in the Xfinity Series, Byron won seven Trucks races in 2016, his first full-time season in a national series.
Teen driving sensation William Byron will replace Kasey Kahne in Hendrick Motorsport’s No. 5 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series next year, according to multiple reports.
Byron, 19, a three-time winner this season in the Xfinity Series will take over for Kahne, who will not be retained by Hendrick, the team announced Monday.
The reports — all citing unidentified sources — said Byron will move from Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports team, completing a meteoric rise to NASCAR's top series.
Signed by Hendrick in 2016, Byron won seven times and finished fifth in points last year as an 18-year-old in the Camping World Trucks Series, his first full-time season in a national series.
