Tenten in Naruto

Ever since her time as a student in the Academy, Tenten desired to become a legendary kunoichi much like her idol Tsunade, one of the legendary Sannin. After graduating, she was assigned to Team Guy, alongside her classmates Rock Lee and Neji Hyūga.

Tenten attempted to become a medical-nin by building her strength but soon, she realized that she lacked skills to qualify as a medical-nin. She discovered her talent for fūinjutsu and honed her unique combat skills. Knowing her capabilities, she gave up on trying to become like Tsunade but aspired to become a legendary kunoichi in her own right.

Later, she and her teammates were offered to participate in the Chūnin Exams to be promoted to a higher rank. However, they decided to skip the exam for the time being to further enhance their skills.

Part 1

Chūnin Exams

After skipping the previous Chūnin Exams, Tenten and her teammates took part in it the next year along with their other classmates. During the written test, Tenten assisted Lee in gathering answers, by using strings to adjust hidden mirrors on the ceiling which allowed Lee to see his fellow ninja’s answers without getting caught.

Later, she was seen, during the second part of the exam, in the Forest of Death with her teammates. They split up to find the scrolls and decided to meet at the assigned destination after accomplishing their tasks. When Lee didn’t make it back, Tenten and Neji went out and found him lying unconscious and surrounded by Team Dosu. She watched over Lee and tried waking him up by violently shaking him.

Later, Tenten was matched against Temari for the preliminary round of the Chūnin Exams but was eliminated because of Temari’s superior skill-set but also because of her lack of skills and strength.

Before the finals, Tenten assisted Neji in his training and was seen using her weapons to perfect Neji’s Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven technique. Later, she watched his match during the finals and asserted that Neji wouldn’t lose because of his exceptional skills and talent. After Neji’s loss, Tenten was shocked but admired Naruto’s abilities for defeating Neji.

Konoha Crush

During the Konoha Crush, Tenten went to check on Neji and later, they went with Kiba on a mission to rescue Hinata after she was captured. Tenten summoned a fire dragon from her scroll which obliterated many attackers and advised her teammates to look after Hinata while she fought with the enemies.

Later, she was seen during the Third Hokage’s funeral alongside other villagers.

Kurosuki Family Removal Mission

To eliminate the Kurosuki family, Team Guy and Naruto were dispatched. After the enemy was defeated, she went with others and found a young boy named Ranmaru. Much to her disgust, the boy not only assisted him using his dōjutsu, but he was also crippled and unable to take care of himself.

Later, she took him to the Curry of Life shop and saved his life. Not only that, she helped the boy overcome his despair and persuaded him to lead a normal life and stand up for himself. Later, she engaged in a fight with Raiga where her skills proved quite fruitful. She appeared to have an advantage until Raiga eventually overpowered her with his methods after she disarmed him.

Student Lead Mission

Students from the Academy were separated into three-person teams and assigned to a genin who led them on a mission against other teams. Tenten was tasked with leading a group of three Academy pupils and she was shown for a brief moment but was performing better than Naruto.

Cursed Warrior Elimination

Tenten was assigned to the mission to the Lands of Birds alongside Naruto and Neji. During the assignment, her taijutsu abilities were demonstrated while she engaged with assassins, as well as her amazing precision when she encountered the Cursed Warrior.

Tenten took it upon herself to let Naruto and Neji to pass after skilfully removing a trap that would potentially set off if not hit correctly. Later, she was enraged about Naruto and Neji for leaving her out of their plan.

During the time skip, Tenten honed her weaponry abilities for years just as her classmates trained in their respective skills during the time Naruto was away from the village training with Jiraya.

Part 2

Chūnin Exams

Tenten’s team participated in the joint Chūnin Exams held by Konoha and Suna. They qualified the first round and set out to race to Sunagakure, where only the first 30 teams to arrive would qualify for further rounds.

They arrived in time to qualify for the next round which will be held the next day. They were tasked with finding the missing scroll i.e. either Heaven or Earth scroll in the Demon desert. Tenten’s team began their quest and soon encountered Suna-nin's team. However, it didn’t start well as Sen removed a genjutsu which revealed to Tenten’s team about them standing in the quicksand and they were further dragged into Sand Waterfall Pit.

They soon escaped and found Team Shira, whom they saved from their treacherous fellow Suna-nin. Tenten and Shira’s team followed Rock Lee to the location of Shira’s fellow teammates and saved Lee from Suna-nin’s group assault. Lee challenged Shira to fight him, which the latter happily accepted. Watching them, Tenten was amazed with their matching strength and devotion.

Next day, Tenten’s team ran into Ame shinobi but the enemies retreated after discovering their chakra levels. Tenten’s team followed them into old ruins where she and Ajisai were eventually swallowed by collapsing ground. Tenten woke up to find Ajisai unconscious and convinced the latter to a truce. After some time, they escaped from the cave-in with Tenten’s efforts and both were reunited with their respective teams and they parted peacefully.

Later, Tenten’s summoned a protective dome when Team Guy was trapped in a massive sandstorm to wait out until the storm settled. They spotted Matsuri who begged them to help save Gaara but soon learned that Fū is there as well and a Suna-nin Hōichi was trying to extract their respective tailed beasts. Tenten provided Neji with her chakra blade to break through Fū’s cocoon.

Tenten’s team later decided to head back to the main building to finish the exam despite lacking a matching set of scrolls. Upon reaching there, they learned of the exams being canceled after the events that unfolded during the second exam. They returned to Konoha and Tsunade promoted them to jōnin upon Gaara’s recommendation.

Kazekage Rescue Mission

Team Guy was dispatched by Tsunade to back up Team 7, who were off rescuing Gaara after he was abducted by the Akatsuki. They were assisted by Pakkun who was leading them to Team Kakashi’s location near the Akatsuki hideout. Soon, they encountered Kisame Hoshigaki, who was actually an imposter trying to stall them.

They attacked him but Kisame’s water clones trapped them inside water prisons rendering them immobilized. Might Guy went one-to-one with Kisame’s imposter and overpowered him, setting free Tenten and the others. After realizing that they were being stalled, Pakkun assisted them to Team Kakashi’s location.

Team Guy was later tasked with breaking down the barrier to the entrance of the Akatsuki hideout. They went on their separate ways to locate the four seals and simultaneously removed them but it resulted in an ambush by their respective clones. They fought their respective clones but soon started getting exhausted as their clones' abilities matched theirs.

Lee deduced that the clones were just as strong as themselves when they arrived at the location and hence they just needed to overpower themselves in order to defeat their respective clones. Lee’s strategy worked out for Team Guy and they headed back towards Team Kakashi’s location immediately.

After rescuing Gaara, Team Guy and Team Kakashi returned to Konoha after paying respect to Chiyo’s grave.

Three-Tails’ Appearance

Tenten was placed on a team tasked with guarding Team Three while they sealed the Three-Tails. They encountered Team Guren and engaged with them and managed to defeat Guren’s men.

Tenten and Lee arrived when Guren tried to break the sealing but ultimately the seal was disrupted and they were soon confronted by Guren’s men once again. In the end, Tenten’s Team was eventually defeated as Guren’s men were empowered by Orochimaru’s Juinjutsu. Failing at their task, they returned back to the village.

Pain’s Assault

Team Guy arrived at Konoha after completing a certain mission and found the village destroyed with several villagers injured and in severe condition. They found Hinata injured as well but Tenten noted that her wounds are not fatal but that she needs immediate medical attention.

Tenten stood by watching Sakura heal Hinata and later was seen celebrating after Naruto returned to the village defeating Pain.

Five Kage Summit

When the news of Sasuke’s recent contact with Akatsuki reached Konoha, Tenten and rest of the Konoha 11 determined to personally murder Sasuke before he involved the village in a conflict. Tenten later consoled Ino when the latter sobbed over this decision and stood up for her when Ino was chastised by Kiba.

Tenten got angry when Naruto insisted on dealing with Sasuke himself and implied that no one would stand by his decision. When Naruto showed that he was adamant with his decision, it left Tenten and others in mixed emotions.

Tonika Village

Tenten and her team were dispatched to provide assistance to Team Kakashi to investigate the mystery of The Hole in the Tonika Village which Kabuto Yakushi was responsible for. Tenten moved to a secured area when Naruto’s clone formed into a larger four-tails version of Naruto. She later battled Kabuto’s puppets and returned to the village along with her fellow Konoha-nin after Kabuto retreated.

Paradise Life on a Boat

Tenten and Shikamaru were assigned to deliver supplies to Naruto and his squad. On their way they faced a few difficulties like getting trapped in a whirlpool and robbers attempting to loot them. Tenten sealed the ship inside one of her scrolls and outsmarted the enemy.

Later, Tenten was put in charge of the weapons supply during the preparations of the Fourth Shinobi World War. She rounded up all the Konoha girls to a barbecue dinner before the war started to release all the stress everyone was in. She gathered up with Hinata, Sakura, Ino and Shiho and reminisced about their time during the Chūnin Exams and how they were brought closer to each other ever since.

Fourth Shinobi World War

Tenten was placed in the First Division with Chōza Akimichi and Hiashi Hyūga and they were sent to the border of the Land of Lightning to battle the approaching White Zetsu Army. She was overwhelmed with the amount of White Zetsu Army as she stood beside Chōza and Hiashi. She jumped into the battle and launched a barrage of projectile weapons filled with kunai and shuriken at several opponents that hit the spot.

She was later shocked by the massive damage caused by Kinkaku, who transformed as a jinchūriki. Later, she was seen aiding the alliance by launching a barrage of kunai from her scroll towards Kinkaku to help defeat the enemy by sealing it in the treasured tool Kohaku no Jōhei.

After the Gold and Silver Brothers were defeated, she discovered the lost Bashōsen in the battlefield. She used it to destroy Kakuzu’s lightning mask using the fire element. Then she ran to find new enemies to defeat and kept on fighting.

Later, Tenten collapsed to the ground as the Treasured Tools of the Sage of Six Paths required a huge amount of chakra. She was healed by a fellow shinobi who told not to touch the fan again as it might kill her considering the condition she was in. She later aided Team Asuma in devising a strategy, though she was left in despair for not being allowed to use the Bashōsen.

Much later, Tenten and the rest of Konoha 11 rushed towards Naruto and Killer B’s location to aid in fighting the “masked Madara”. She stood beside the remainder of the Shinobi Forces while they prepared to face their opposition by trying to trap the Ten-Tails.

Tenten later returned to Neji’s location after learning of his death and tried consoling Lee which didn’t work. After receiving the Nine-Tails’ chakra from Naruto, Tenten and other members of the Alliance charged towards Ten-Tails and the Uchiha duo. However, she and other shinobi got trapped inside a barrier with the Tailed Beast Ball-firing tree.

With Naruto and Minato’s assistance, they were able to escape from the barrier and dodged a fatal attack in the process. Later, when the Ten-Tails transformed into its final form, the God Tree, and ravaged the Alliance, Tenten escaped its chakra absorbing attack.

After sometime, Tenten, along with other Konoha 11, assisted Naruto in defeating the Six Paths Obito with Nine-Tails cloak around them, and each of them charging a Rasengan at him to extract the tailed beasts within him. Tenten and her comrades got hold of all the tailed beasts chakra and they managed to free it from Obito’s control.

She regrouped with Guy and Lee, and listened to Guy talk about the power of youth and soon asked herself why Neji left her with the two bone-heads. Guy and Lee were struck by the Treasured Tools of Six Paths falling from the sky after Madara discarded them. Tenten was in shock seeing the tools and soon started searching for a shinobi from Kumogakure to find out how the tools work so she could provide aid in battle using them.

Soon after Madara activated the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Tenten was caught by the roots of the God Tree and fell under the genjutsu. She dreamed of Guy and Lee acting mature and contained, and saw Neji alive as well. With the possession of the Treasured Tools, she retained her memories of the war and for a long time inside her dream, she was questioning herself about everything strange happening around her. It shook her to see how different her friends were, including Naruto as “Menma”.

Soon, she realized that she was under genjutsu and decided to avoid conversing with any of her friends believing they may be agents of Madara. She was approached by a traveling merchant who lured her to the outskirts of the village, accepting his map to Amegakure and this led her into getting imprisoned in Konoha as a traitor as the map contained Konoha’s intel. She was freed by Menma and upon breaking free from the prison, she assisted her fellow Konoha-nin in fighting off the Ame-nin, using the two Six Paths Sage tools. Soon after, she was convinced that this is the world she belongs in.

Tenten along with the rest of the Shinobi Alliance were freed from the genjutsu world after the Infinite Tsukuyomi was undone by Naruto and Sasuke. She handed over the two Treasured Tools of Six Paths to Darui, who then released his fellow Kumo-nin Samui and Atsui from one of them.

Naruto’s Wedding

Before Naruto’s wedding, Tenten, like all her classmates, was trying to decide on a perfect gift for the couple. After putting a lot of thought into it, she decided to gift customized kunai when she learned of Lee gifting dumbbells to the couple. She later attends Naruto and Hinata’s wedding and was seen taking a photo of herself along with Hinata, Sakura and Ino.

New Era

Tenten’s hobby of collecting every type of ninja tool from around the world grew to a point where she opened a shop to sell ninja tools. But it's nearly always empty due to the peaceful era. Among the tools were the Treasured Tools, which were displayed in the shop with a sign that said “not for sale”.

Tenten is shown to be naturally curious and attentive, with a personal ambition to become a legendary kunoichi like Tsunade. This caused her to become strongly opinionated about women, arguing that they can be just as skilled as guys in taijutsu when Neji believed otherwise.

She dislikes weakness and being overly reliant on other people. Though she can be extremely aggressive, Tenten’s is compassionate and kind toward others. She is even seen consoling her buddies when they are in distress. She is sometimes annoyed by her overly enthusiastic teammates, particularly Might Guy and Rock Lee, and wishes they would behave more maturely; something that her Infinite Tsukuyomi dream portrays.

Tenten is more laid-back and dislikes having to travel for entire days or continue training when she is already exhausted, which is why she looks forward to her days off from missions. She cares deeply for her squad, assisting in the rescue of Lee during the Chūnin Exam after he failed to return to their base. She also admired her teammate Neji Hyūga and frequently assisted him in training.

Tenten, who was a ninja-tool user, naturally likes ninja weapons to the point where she collects every ninja tool from around the world as a pastime. Furthermore, her obsession grew to the point where she started a full-fledged ninja tool shop. She also appears to be fascinated by the occult, believing in ghosts and other such things.

Tenten has black hair and brown eyes. Her hair is styled in two Chinese-style buns on top of her head, with short fringe bangs framing her face.

Part 1

She is dressed in a pink sleeveless qipao-style shirt with red sleeve trimmings and yellow fastening buttons, as well as dark green slacks. Her thigh is fitted with a pouch, and her forehead protector and sandals are also blue.

Part 2

Tenten is dressed in a long-sleeved, high collared maroon shirt, black fingerless gloves, low-headed sandals and a black forehead shield.

She is dressed in maroon puffy hakama-style pants, with the exposed bits bandaged and the shuriken holster removed. She generally has a huge scroll tucked behind her back. She wears the traditional Konoha infantry flak jacket and various clothes during the Fourth Shinobi World War, as well as a holster around her waist that holds two tiny scrolls.

New Era

As an adult, Tenten wears the similar outfit as Part 2 with peach coloured pants. She also sports red dangling tassel-like earrings.

Tenten is a highly talented and capable kunoichi, and her squad holds her in high regard. By part 2, she evolved into a Chūnin capable of exerting pressure on the likes of Kisame Hoshigaki with the help of her teammates. She is a kunoichi who excelled at space-time ninjutsu which means that she can utilize to summon puppets with kunai-firing guns as an adult.

Bukijutsu

She is skilled with a variety of weapons, including the manriki-gusari and bō. She could even use weapons she had no prior understanding of, such as the Jidanda and Bashōsen, efficiently.

She is an outstanding marksman, as her teammates have remarked, consistently hitting 100/100 marks. Tenten is regarded as Konoha’s most skilled weapon user by the time she reaches maturity.

Fūinjutsu

Tenten is an expert in the use of fūinjutsu and her usual approach is to stockpile a large number of weapons in scrolls that she may later unseal and use to batter her opponents. She could add explosive tags to the weapons to make them more dangerous and use wire strings tk better guide the trajectory of the guns.

She can utilize her two little scrolls to perform the Twin Rising Dragons, which she was confined to physically touching in order to execute. After she became a Chūnin; she equipped a huge scroll which she can toss above her opponent to rain a plethora of weapons down on them.

Tenten can also store and release a fire dragon that explodes on contact and metal dome to guard against attacks. She can even seal objects as large as a ship or a vast body of water, which she can use to wash obstacles away.

(To Neji about Ino and Sakura’s match) “It’s not because they are girls you know, it’s just that those two are using kid gloves. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or woman in battle.”

(To Ranmaru) “I won’t let that happen. No way you’re getting off that easy! The people you and Raiga killed, they all wanted to live but you didn’t leave them that choice! You decided for them! Well you don’t get to decide this time, okay!? You’re going to live and you’re going to take responsibility for all those people’s lives you cut short!”

(To Naruto) You’re gonna fight Sasuke alone? And you think all of us are just gonna stand here and let you!?”

(To Naruto) “Three members of Team Guy specialize in close-contact battles so I often render aid from the distance. I don’t mind providing back up, but I was hoping to find new ninja tools that would enable me to fight on the front lines.”

(To herself) “I no longer wish to be like Lady Tsunade anymore. But I haven’t given up on my dream to become a legendary kunoichi.”
