Zetsu is a fictional character in the popular manga and its anime adaptation, the Naruto series written by Masashi Kishimoto. Zetsu was a member of the criminal organization Akatsuki in the series. There are two Zestu in the series, White Zetsu and Black Zetsu.

White Zetsu was originally one of the first victims of Kaguya Otsutsuki in the Ancient Era when Kaguya used the citizens of her land as nourishment for the God Tree. He was extracted from the Gedo Statue by Black Zetsu. Madara Uchiha then infused him with the cells of Hashirama Senju.
He later became a member of the Akatsuki after joining forces with Black Zetsu. He initially used to collect intel for the organization but later played a significant role in the Fourth Great Ninja War.
Although he is not that useful in a direct confrontation, he proves himself a valuable member with his unnatural abilities. He is able to share his body with Black Zetsu and he can even divide himself into two separate entities giving Black Zetsu an independent body to function.
He can create numerous identical clones of himself and communicate with them telepathically. White Zetsu possesses a unique ability known as Spore Technique, which allows him to attach spores to others’ bodies.
When activated, these spores consume the target's chakra and grow around the target’s body, restricting their movements. They can later share that absorbed chakra with their allies.
Obito Uchiha attached some of White Zetsu’s spores to Sasuke Uchiha to track his movements and aid him if required.
Black Zetsu is one of the major antagonists in the series and he was the will incarnate of Kaguya Otsutsuki. He is the one who orchestrated every significant event in the history of the shinobi world since the beginning.
He initiated wars and created conflict between Indra, Ashura Otsutsuki, and their respective reincarnate. He betrays Madara Uchiha, who is the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki at this point, and uses him as the medium to revive Kaguya Otsutsuki, his mother.
Black Zetsu possesses an extraordinary ability, wildly known as Body Coating Technique, which is exclusive to him. With this technique, he can cover the target with his own body using its plastic nature. By using Body Coating, he is able to use all the techniques and KekkeiGenkai the target possesses. He used this technique on Obito Uchiha to revive Madara using Rinne Rebirth Jutsu.
He is the villainous counterpart of his brother, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths. He was black in appearance, while Hagoromo had white skin. He was the obedient child, while Hagoromo rebelled against their mother. Hagoromo seals away their mother, and Black Zetsu revives her. The actions and motives of both of them are mirrored perfectly.
