Denny Hamlin recently took a jibe at Martin Truex Jr. for his parking maneuver during a race in the pit box. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver Hamlin pointed out his former teammate's flaw and elaborated on the importance of a pre-planned pitting strategy.
In a recent Instagram post, the three-time Daytona 500 winner Hamlin discussed the 2017 Cup Series champion Truex Jr.'s unconventional pit stop in the 2022 Homestead-Miami Speedway race. Seemingly, the #19 Toytota driver Truex Jr. was pushed from rear who had to slow down for missing his pit stall.
Reflecting on the 'unplanned' pit stop of Truex Jr., Hamlin, who is worth $65 million(according to Celebrity Net Worth), shared his two cents on the footage which was captioned under 'dangerous scenarios on pit road'. Hamlin assessed the video and said:
"Well, that was unplanned. Martin clearly needs to work on his parking."
The now-retired NASCAR driver Truex Jr. has accumulated 34 Cup Series wins in over two decades of racing career. He also became the second NASCAR driver from the early 2000s who hung his helmet after Kevin Harvick last season.
As things stand, the 44-year-old Hamlin is the sole elder of the sport as the active Cup Series driver in NASCAR.
"I feel like I can win every week,": Denny Hamlin reflects on his plans on the heels of Martin Truex Jr.'s retirement
Denny Hamlin is only months young from the former Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. Moreover, the 54-time Cup Series race winner is now the oldest active driver.
In an episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin was asked about his state of mind after knowing about the retirement announcement of veteran driver Kevin Harvick and Truex Jr. in the past two years. To this, the #11 Toyota driver replied:
"Only on Mondays when I feel like shit. I have a bad race, my body hurts, and it’s like, uh, man,” Denny Hamlin said. “But every Sunday, I get in that car and I’m like, ‘I got a chance to win.’ And that’s just something that’s going to be hard for me to give up." [1:12:02]
"Surely one day there will be a light switch that flips on that I’m no longer as quick as I was and things like that, but I still feel like I can win it, and I feel like I can win every week and that’s what drives me, Hamlin added."
Denny Hamlin finished eighth in the NASCAR Cup Series, amassing three race wins at the Food City 500, Toyota Owners 400 and the Wurth 400. The 43-year-old had three top-five finishes and six top-ten finishes in the playoffs but this was not enough for him to qualify for the Championship race.
