Position Needs for the Washington Redskins

The NFL Free Agency begins in 5 days and we have already witnessed multiple trades before then. One of them was by the Washington Redskins, trading for Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback(QB) Alex Smith which meant that QB Kirk Cousins won't return to the team in 2018. But there are plenty of holes the Redskins need to fill and here is my take on the position needs.

Cornerback

By trading away cornerback(CB) Kendall Fuller in the Kansas City Chiefs trade, there is a big hole left in the secondary. CB Josh Norman is set on one side and if the Redskins can keep Bashaud Breeland, the secondary can be lethal. But the team should draft someone in the 1st or 2nd round because it's possible Norman will leave the team if things are not improved around the organization. There are some big names hitting free agency such as Trumaine Johnson and Malcolm Butler, but it's unlikely the Redskins will go after any of them.

Wide Receiver

Alex Smith needs someone to throw deep to. As of now, the roster consists of wide receivers (WR) Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder, Ryan Grant (who will be a free agent), Brian Quick, Maurice Harris, and Robert Davis. Doctson showed what he can do last season, but has to improve on that this season. Crowder has been reliable as well, but the team needs a number one receiver who will pose a threat to any secondary. There are rumors that the Redskins have interest in Jacksonville Jaguars' WR Allen Robinson and Miami Dolphins' WR Jarvis Landry(now traded to the Browns). Terrelle Pryor was a bust for the Redskins and will not be back. But in my opinion, it was an issue with building trust with Kirk Cousins. I personally would not mind bringing him back on another 1-year deal to see if a quarterback change will help Pryor play the way he did with the Cleveland Browns in 2016.

Linebacker

If Zach Brown isn't back on the team, a linebacker(LB) has to be drafted in the first round. However, it has been reported that he is looking to get a $10-$12 million deal which would place him near the top of most money paid to a linebacker. The Redskins gave LB Mason Foster a two-year extension but Will Compton will not be brought back which is shocking. There aren't many good free-agent linebackers so look forward to the Redskins to draft a couple in the draft.

Offensive Line

The Redskins offensive line allowed 41 sacks with Kirk Cousins under center and that needs to change in order to protect Alex Smith. Left tackle Trent Williams, right guard Brandon Scherff, and right tackle Morgan Moses have been playing great but it'll take more than that. The free agent market will have some good players but it's unlikely the Redskins will get a top player as they are expected to draft a young guy that will be cheaper and will allow them to spend money elsewhere.
