The Denver Broncos had the top ranked defense in the NFL heading into their key match-up against the Philadelphia Eagles. But Carson Wentz and his team made the Broncos' defense look ordinary at best as they romped to a 51-23 win.

With the Eagles trailing 3-0 early, Wentz threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery. Philadelphia were leading 10-3 later in the first quarter, when Wentz threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Corey Clement.

The Eagles led 17-6 in the second quarter, and Wentz threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Trey Burton. Burton finished with two receptions for 41 yards receiving and a touchdown. He filled in for tight end Zach Ertz because Ertz was inactive with a hamstring injury.

Ertz is Wentz's favorite target but the latter didn't miss a beat in the former's absence today. Brent Celek was the other Eagles tight end who played and he had three receptions for 39 yards receiving.

Before the end of the first half, Jay Ajayi busted a 46-yard touchdown run. He finished with 77 rushing yards on eight carries and a score. Ajayi was acquired in a trade earlier this week from the Miami Dolphins.

Brandon McManus made three field goals in the first half for the Broncos (52, 53, and 24 yards), but that was clearly not enough.

In the third quarter the Eagles just keep pouring it on, with Corey Clement scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run. Philadelphia scored on another touchdown in the third-quarter on a 4-yard pass to Alshon Jeffery from Wentz.

Jeffery finished with six receptions for 84 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Wentz completed 15-of-27 passes for 199 yards and 4 touchdowns.

With the Broncos trailing 44-9 in the fourth quarter, Brock Osweiler threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas (8 catches 70 yards one touchdown). Osweiler completed 19-of-38 passes for 208 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He started for Trevor Siemian because Siemian was benched for his poor play, but Osweiler wasn't much good either.

The Broncos' problems go beyond the quarterback position. The offensive line isn't very good or respected, and they will continue to struggle if that is not addressed.

Brandon Marshall recovered a fumble for the Broncos and he returned it 19 yards for a touchdown.

Corey Clement scored one more touchdown for the Eagles on a 4-yard rush in the fourth. He finished with 51 rushing yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns. Clement also caught one pass for 15 yards receiving and a touchdown.

The Denver Broncos will host the New England Patriots (6-2) next Sunday Night and the Philadelphia Eagles will go on a bye week.
