Derek Carr had a disappointing 2022 NFL season with the Las Vegas Raiders as he showed serious signs of regression. He recorded the worst completion percentage since his rookie year, while accounting for the fewest total yards since the 2017 NFL season.

The Raiders also finished with a disastrous 6-11 record this year after making the NFL Playoffs last season. Carr was eventually benched in favor of Jarrett Stidham for the final two games of the season and is currently on the trade block as the Raiders appear to be in the market for a new quarterback next year.

Despite widely being considered a major failure to meet expectations during the 2022 NFL season, Derek Carr has been named one of the quarterbacks who will represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl this year. He will officially replace Joe Burrow on the roster, who has decided to opt out of his appearance after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

NFL fans have expressed their shock that Derek Carr could somehow find his way onto the Pro Bowl roster, despite his relatively disappointing season. Many went on Twitter to share their takes on the situation, including some of these top comments.

NFL fans are clearly frustrated with the process of naming Pro Bowl alternates that led to Carr being a participant this year. Many believe he doesn't deserve to be there, especially after losing his starting job toward the end of the 2022 NFL season. This has led to many fans questioning the integrity of the Pro Bowl altogether if mediocre performers can apparently receive a spot on the roster.

Who will join Derek Carr as AFC QBs in the 2023 Pro Bowl?

The AFC roster for the 2023 Pro Bowl was initially loaded at the quarterback position when it was originally announced. They would have been represented by Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. They are arguably the top three quarterbacks currently in the NFL.

Mahomes will be playing in the Super Bowl, which means he will not be attending the Pro Bowl the week before. Burrow opted out of his appearance, as well as Allen, who will instead participate in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament.

The top three alternate quarterbacks are all unable to attend the Pro Bowl due to various injuries, including Lamar Jackson, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert. This has resulted in the AFC being forced to go even further down their list of quarterbacks. The roster currently includes Derek Carr, Trevor Lawrence and Tyler Huntley representing the conference as their "best" quarterbacks.
