Mac Jones and the New England Patriots suffered their eighth loss of the season in another close game. They lost 18-22 to the Cincinnati Bengals after rallying back from being down 22-0.

Late in the fourth quarter, Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled the ball in the redzone, and New England suffered another heartbreak. They lost in bizarre fashion to the Las Vegas Raiders last week, and this fumble against the Bengals has damaged their postseason chances.

During the loss to Cincinnati, Mac Jones was seen attempting to trip a Bengals player with his shoulder and the play was deemed dirty by many. Here's how social media reacted to it:

Jones was mocked last week for missing a tackle on Chandler Jones, which resulted in a defeat for the New England Patriots. When Mac Jones attempted to tackle this week, it appeared vile to many watching.

This has been a very tough season for the former Alabama quarterback and the Patriots are likely to miss the playoffs in his sophomore season. Jones played well in his rookie season and drew comparisons with Tom Brady, but he has regressed a lot this campaign.

The Patriots need to help Mac Jones

Although Jones hasn't played his best this season, the Patriots have also put him in a very tough position. The team doesn't have any star players on the offensive end, and without a top-quality receiver, you can't expect a young quarterback to do much.

Moreover, the Patriots have failed to replace Josh McDaniels. Joe Judge and Matt Patricia haven't been the best fit for the New England offense led by Jones.

This season, Jones has a passer rating of 84.6. He has thrown for 2,550 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 12 games. In comparison, last season Jones had a passer rating of 92.5 with 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 17 games.

The Patriots need to act quickly or else Jones' confidence will continue to go down. He is the ideal quarterback for Bill Belichick's team, but like Brady, Jones will need some good players around him on the offensive end.

It will be interesting to see if the Patriots will make widespread changes to help their young quarterback.
