Jamaal Williams Saints contract: How much will former Lions star RB earn in New Orleans?

Jamaal Williams will be playing for the New Orleans Saints next season as the prolific running back leaves the Detroit Lions after a stellar season. Last season, Williams had 262 carries for 1,066 yards and scored 17 touchdowns in 17 games.

He is 27 years old, so there was some risk in signing a big deal in free agency, but the Saints now have another weapon to add to their offense. After being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2017, Williams spent four seasons in Wisconsin before playing in Detroit for the past two seasons.

As per Adam Schefter, Williams is signing a three-year $12 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. He will be receiving $9 million as guaranteed money and will help the Derek Carr-led offense next season.

Here's what Tom Pelissero reported later:

"Jamaal Williams' three-year, $12 million deal pays out $5M in Year 1, including a $3.9M signing bonus. His $3.15M base salary in 2024 is guaranteed, with a $700K roster bonus also due next March. So, $8.85M over two years, and then a $3.15M base salary in 2025."

Jamaal Williams will also serve as a leader for this Saints team, who struggled last season and failed to make the playoffs. The Saints are expected to win the NFC South with Derek Carr at quarterback, and with Williams' acquisition, they will keep rolling even if Alvin Kamara faces suspension.

The Saints also re-signed Michael Thomas and his pairing with Chris Olave for the entire season with Carr as the quarterback might be a dangerous sight for many opponents.

Next season, the New Orleans Saints are expected to win the division and make the playoffs for various obvious reasons. They now have a quarterback who can lead the team from the front, and he is surrounded by pretty good players.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Baker Mayfield to replace Tom Brady, but their roster still has many flaws that could make them miss the playoffs. On the other hand, the Panthers are expected to draft a quarterback while the Falcons are still looking for answers from Desmond Ridders.

This goes on to show that Derek Carr and Williams could lead the Saints to the playoffs in their first season with the franchise. Moreover, if they catch fire, they can certainly make noise in the playoffs.
