Cam Ward has been continuing to surprise since being taken by the Tennessee Titans as the top pick in this year's NFL draft. The quarterback has been multitasking at the team's mandatory minicamp, and Titans coach Brian Callahan spilled the beans on Ward's attentiveness while taking reps.
On Wednesday, Callahan said that Ward was trash-talking his teammates while receiving play calls, which surprised the coach.
"I'll be honest, I'm not used to calling plays to a quarterback who's usually still talking while I'm talking to him, and that's great," Callahan said. "And so I asked him after practice, I said, 'Just help me out here, do you need me to wait until you finish?' He goes, 'No, I'm listening.' So, he's hearing what I'm telling him, and it was pretty remarkable to see all the things going on, and he's talking, but like, his brain is still with me, is the best way to put it.

"When I'm calling a play, he's doing all he's doing, but he's still listening to everything I'm telling him, and he enters right into the huddle and calls the play and doesn't screw up the play call. And I actually thought that was kind of remarkable."

Even Titans defensive lineman Jeffrey Simmons was impressed with Ward's trash-talking ability and the two exchanged words at Tuesday's practice session.
Ward reportedly signed a four-year, $48,839,618 rookie contract with the Titans last month. The quarterback will earn $32,159,720 from his signing bonus and will have an average annual salary of $12,209,905.
Cam Ward opens up on being kicked out by Titans for arriving at 5 a.m. for training

Titans coach Brian Callahan told reporters last week that Cam Ward had to be sent back home on some occasions when he arrived at the team's training facility as early as 5 a.m., before the team began its sessions. However, the rookie QB cleared the air around the issue on Saturday.
“It’s just my process," Ward said. "It’s how I’ve always been in college until now. It’s how I get everything in, whether it’s film, treatment-wise. I gotta get everything in to start my day, to end my day by whatever time you gotta get it done.”
The Titans have not named Ward as their QB1 just yet since they want him to earn the starting role. However, it's widely expected that the rookie will be leading the team's offense in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
