Rob Gronkowski may be turning 33 years old by the time next season begins. He also understands he may have to play for a quarterback not named Tom Brady if he wishes to continue playing.
As far as we know, Gronkowski has no plans to hang up his cleats for a second time.
The Buffalo Bills, and Tennessee Titans are two teams that have been linked to Gronkowski this offseason. But the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star appears interested in playing with a different AFC contender, the Cincinnati Bengals.
Rob Gronkowski has spoken highly of Joe Burrow, having praised him before the Super Bowl and in a recent interview with CBS Sports. Burrow is coming off a sensational second-year campaign that saw him guide the Bengals to the Super Bowl. Gronowski told CBS Sports:
"I love the way Joe Burrow presents himself on the field. Regardless of the outcome, the Super Bowl was a great game and he left his best out there. I've watched him since college, he's confident in the pocket, and he just slings it out into the play. I love his swag, he's killing it right now and I think we're going to see a bright future ahead for him."
Should Gronkowski bring his talents to Cincinnati, it would be a seamless fit for all parties involved. The Bengals could be in the market for a tight end with CJ Uzomah set to become a free agent.
The Bengals will be looking to return to the Super Bowl, and bringing in a four-time champion will only help their chances.
Rob Gronkowski would solidify Bengals' status as Super Bowl contenders
The Bengals will be viewed as Super Bowl contenders in 2022 regardless of whether or not they bring in Rob Gronkowski. Burrow already has one of the most skilled and diverse supporting casts in the NFL with Ja'Marr Chase, Joe Mixon, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd.
But Gronkowski would add another element to their passing attack. In the red zone and receiving game as a whole, Gronkowski is still elite for his position. Not only that, but he's a tremendous blocker that will help in the run game.
That said, the Bengals will have competition for Gronkowski.
Rob Gronkowski will set his decision timeline and decide where he wants to play when he's ready. He may not have his mind made up before free agency begins. But all 32 teams will be keeping an eye on the five-time Pro Bowler's decision.
Whether the Bengals keep Uzomah or not, they should do whatever they can to bring in Gronkowski,. It would be a win-win scenario for both their locker room and their on-the-field product.
