When will Trey Lance be back? Will the San Francisco 49ers QB be available for Week 14?

The San Francisco 49ers were dealt a huge blow when Trey Lance suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 of the 2022-23 NFL season. The NFC West outfit then turned to Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.

However, Garoppolo's season has also been cut short after he sustained a broken foot in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. The Niners had to field rookie Brock Purdy for the remainder of the game on Sunday.

Will Trey Lance play in Week 14?

Following Garoppolo's season-ending injury, NFL fans have been curious to learn whether Trey Lance will be able to feature in Week 14. Unfortunately, Lance will not be available for the Niners anytime this season.

The 22-year-old fractured his right ankle against the Seattle Seahawks earlier this season. Lance's foot surgery was successful but he will only be fit to return next campaign.

Lance started two games this season and threw for 194 passing yards with one interception. He failed to score a touchdown in his limited game time for San Francisco earlier in the campaign.

Who will start at QB for the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14?

As things stand, the Niners are without a reliable quarterback to close out the regular season. However, later on Sunday, December 4, San Francisco made a move to sign veteran quarterback Josh Johnson from the Denver Broncos practice squad. Johnson played in four games with the Jets and the Ravens last season.

Nonetheless, the spotlight will now be on rookie Brock Purdy to finish strong with the Niners and guide them into the postseason. San Francisco also has quarterback Jacob Eason on their practice squad and he would appear to be up next as Brock Purdy's backup.

Kyle Shanahan's side is currently leading the NFC West with eight wins and four defeats. They will face Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14.
