History of Fude Fude no Mi

Forty-one years ago, this fruit came under the possession of Kurozumi Higurashi, Kurozumi Orochi, and Kurozumi Semimaru. When Kanjuro came to meet them, Orochi gave him the fruit and told him that he should eat it, so that it helps them in infiltrating the Kozuki family’s castle.

Appearance of Fude Fude no Mi

The lower half of this fruit is like a Gourd and it has a very narrow top which then widens up. It had two colors, the top half is dark colored and the bottom half is light colored (the fruit was shown as black and white in the anime, but its exact colors aren't revealed). The bottom half has the standard devil fruit spirals on them but the top half has unusual fish hook patterns on them. This fruit has a horizontal stem that curves in an upwards spiral on the left side and a downward spiral on the right.

Strengths and weaknesses

As the user is capable of generating ink from their body, the user can create drawings at any time they wish without needing an external source. The user can also channel their ink through paint brushes or even their hair. The user can also change the color of the ink they use. Once the user draws an object, they are capable of transforming it into a 3D object which possesses the qualities of the real life subject it's based on. Thus, the user is able to create a wide range of objects that helps them in any situation. The drawing dissolves whenever the user wishes it to.

The user is also able to control the living creatures that they draw and can speak to them, as they help to aid them in battle. The user also senses the creatures they create which allows them to know what is happening around the drawing when it's not with them. The user can also create perfect replicas of people if they know a lot about the person’s appearance and can use it as a means of deception. The user can also hide themselves in their drawings which helps them go in disguise and infiltrate. The drawings don't bleed or possess internal organs and can only be exposed when someone cuts them. After a living drawing takes a sufficient amount of damage, it will disappear. The user is also capable of reversing the typical process of the power by transforming their body into 2D drawings which helps them to hide.

Even though this devil fruit is quite strong, it still has its weaknesses as the strength of this ability solely depends on the artistic skills of the user. If the drawing becomes very exhausted then it reverts back to its non living 2D state. The drawings are weak against water to a certain degree. When the user creates a drawing, it takes a toll on them in order to maintain the life of the drawing, especially if they are detailed ones. Other than that they have the standard devil fruit weakness, that is the inability to swim.

Usage

We can see Kanjuro use a giant paintbrush to create his drawings which serves as his weapon. Even though Kanjuro is a very skilled artist and is able to draw living beings well, he pretended that he was very bad at drawing and only drew poorly drawn, barely functional objects while he was working with the Kozuki family. He acted like a mediocre artist in front of them and when it was time to show his true colors, it was shown that he was indeed a skilled artist. When the Nine Red Scabbards sailed out to Onigashima to fight Kaido, Kanjuro made a perfect clone of himself and no one knew about it until Kin’emon decapitated the drawing.

Kanjuro also draws quickly with a lot of precision, like when he drew a large crane instantly. His created animals are very capable, as if they were the real deal. Kanjuro hid his true powers from the Kozuki family, like the fact that he could generate ink from his hair and use it to create hardened ink droplets. Kanjuro can also combine his acting skills with his paintings to create psychological attacks, like when he animates a painting of Kozuki Oden and uses his knowledge of him to create a persuasive illusion of him. This deception was the one which caught the Nine Red Scabbards off guard and when the truth was revealed, they all were psychologically hurt.
