Adam Johnson: A Brief Biography

Adam Johnson is an English footballer from Sunderland, England who plays for Premier League club Sunderland as a winger. A product of the Middlesbrough youth academy, he first captured the spotlight when he made his debut in a UEFA Cup game. His first goal for Middlesbrough was against Bolton Wanderers on 3rd May 2006. He has played 119 games for Middlesbrough, and has also played on la month long loan with Leeds United. After playing four games, Johnson returned to Middlesbrough and helped them to a victory in the FA Cup against Bristol City by setting up one goal and scoring the winning penalty in the shootout. In September 2007, Johnson joined Championship side Watford on a three-month loan, playing 12 games and scoring five goals before returning to Middlesbrough earlier than expected. On 24 August 2012, Johnson signed on with Sunderland on a four year-contract for £10 million. On 28 August, Johnson made his first appearance for Sunderland in a 2–0 win over league two side Morecambe in the League Cup, assisting in both goals. At an international level, Johnson was called-up for the under-21 team at the 2009 UEFA U21 Championships in Sweden. His style of play includes cutting inside coupled with agility and pace. Although he can play on both the left and the right, he can also play behind the main striker.
