Bethanie Mattek-Sands: A Brief Biography

Bethanie Lynn Mattek-Sands is an American professional tennis player who competes on the WTA Tour. In 1999, Mattek played her first WTA Tour event in Philadelphia where she received a wildcard into the qualifying. In 2001, Mattek again received a wildcard into the qualifying at the Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida. She won her first match against 12th-seeded Catalina Castaño. Mattek\'s profile reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 38 on November 3, 2008 and career-high ranking of World No. 24 in doubles. In January 2011, Mattek-Sands got the biggest win of her career off of World No. 7 Francesca Schiavone. Mattek-Sands teamed with John Isnerfor the USA, and they reached the Hopman Cup Teams Event Final – Belgium V USA, which they won. Bethanie\'s good form continued into the 2011 Moorilla Hobart International where she reached the semi-finals without dropping a set defeatingAnastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Ayumi Morita, Angelique Kerber. Bethanie started her 2012 year representing the USA in the 2012 Hopman Cup with Mardy Fish. At the 2012 Australian Open, she paired Horia Tecau to win the doubles title by defeating the team of Elena Vesnina and Leander Paes in the finals.
