Daniil Medvedev Early Life

Daniil Medvedev, a Moscow native, was encouraged to take up tennis by his father. Ekaterina Kryuchkova, a veteran tennis coach who worked with players like Vera Zvonareva and other pros, was Medvedev's first tennis coach. Besides sports, Medvedev’s other early pursuits were harpsichord and guitar classes. Prior to graduating early and enrolling in economics and business at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Medvedev attended a specialized school where he studied math and physics. He eventually gave up studies to focus on tennis.

Daniil Medvedev changed to the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth, and Tourism after that, where he earned his coach's degree. He relocated with his family to Antibes, France, where he attended the tennis academy. Since Medvedev was born prematurely at the age of eight months, the Russian Armed Forces have designated him as an "unsuitable" for recruitment. Due to a lack of support from the Russian Tennis Federation at the start of his professional career, Medvedev thought about playing under the flag of Kazakhstan, like many other Russian tennis players.

Daniil Medvedev Family Background

Daniil Medvedev, son of Sergey and Olga Medvedev, was born in Moscow in February 1996 and made his professional debut in 2014. The owner of a Russian company that manufactures building supplies, Medvedev's father, is a computer engineer by training. His early tennis career was partially funded by the wealth Medvedev's parents had amassed through this enterprise.

When Daniil Medevdev was six years old, his mother saw an advertisement for group tennis lessons at the pool where he was taking swimming lessons, and her father pushed him to sign up. While playing tennis was a common part of his youth, he also liked to swim, play chess, watch football, and sketch, but his parents always believed that tennis would be his career.

The tennis ace is the youngest of three children raised by Danill Medvedev's parents. Medvedev has two older sisters and is the only boy. Elena, the middle Medvedev sibling, is eight years older, and Julia, the eldest one, is 12 years older, making them 35 and 39 years old as of 2023, respectively. The entire Medvedev family relocated to France so that he could attend the Antibes Tennis Academy. Danill, along with his wife Daria, reside in Monte Carlo, while his parents continue to reside in the countryside.

Daniil Medvedev Wife

Daniil Medevdev married Daria Chernyshkova in September 2018. The previous No. 1 ranked player, told reporters in 2019 about his wife, "She's one of the most important members of my team." Besides being the tennis player's biggest supporter, Daria formerly played the game herself and is familiar with its demands, as Medvedev stated in a 2019 press conference. The couple first met when they were 14 years old and even shared a home in Norway. Daria eventually quit the sport at the age of 18 as a result of numerous injuries.

Daniil Medvedev and Daria talked about tennis before exchanging phone numbers in 2014, after Daniil contacted Daria via Instagram messages. Daria didn't give it much thought other than to be amazed at the extent to which the player with whom she had once trained had advanced in his profession. The two didn't actually get reunited until Daria went to Nice, France, to meet with a dressmaker. While on the road, Daria ran into Daniil, who was then residing in Antibes.

On September 12, 2018, the couple exchanged vows in front of their closest family members. After winning the US Open in 2021, Medvedev thanked his wife for all the support she had given him. He said: "It’s the third anniversary for me and my wife. During the tournament, I couldn’t think of a present. So when I went in the final, I thought, I need to find a present fast. When I won, the only thing I thought, if I lose, I have no time to have a present. So I have to win this match. I love you, Dasha."
