Davinder Singh Biography


Davinder Singh is an Indian footballer who hails from Punjab and is a young and talented defender. He plays as a right back for his team.


He was born on 23 September 1995 in Patiala, Punjab and has taken giant strides from playing University level football to playing in the Indian Senior side.


Background


Davinder started playing football at the age of 16 and joined the Dalbir Football Academy where he developed a knack of keeping the wingers under control. He played for their Under-16 team.


He started his Bachelor of Arts studies at the Punjabi University and joined the University Football team in 2013.


He then became a part of the academy of Minerva Punjab FC and got selected to participate in the I-League second division. An injury caused him to bail out just before the onset of the league.


Debut


Davinder made his professional debut in December 2017 for Mumbai in the Indian Super League against Kerala Blasters as Mumbai drew the match by 1-1.


He won the Emerging Player of the match award for his impressive performance.


Rise to glory


Davinder is a tough adversary, a strong and fearless tackler. While playing in one of the Inter-varsity games, the talent scouts were impressed by his tackles and he was called for the trials of the Indian squad for the AFC U-23 Qualifiers in Mumbai.


He made the cut and was included in the Under-23 squad to travel to Qatar for the qualifiers. While playing his first match, he showed why he was hailed as a future Indian prospect.


It was India's one of the finest defensive performances in recent times despite losing the match. He played three matches in the qualifiers as India failed to qualify.


The head coach Stephen Constantine, impressed by the young lad told him to join the national team camp.


He was included in the squad for the Tri-Nation series against Mauritius and St. Kitts. It was the first time a player had been fast tracked from a University team into the National squad.


Club Career


In August 2017, Davinder was signed by Mumbai City for the Indian Super League.
