Jang Kun Lee: A Brief Biography

Jang Kun Lee is a professional South Korean Kabaddi player, born on 6 November 1992 in Busan, South Korea. Lee was bought by Patna Pirates at the PKL 2019 Auctions for a sum of Rs. 40 lakh. He will play as a raider in the upcoming season, after having played for Bengal Warriors in the previous seasons.


Lee plays the attacking position and is pretty good at it. In fact, he is one the top overseas raider in the league. He possesses a unique style of attacking, with mix of traditional Kabaddi skills and martial arts. It is this uniqueness which make him a top class player in the field of Kabaddi.


Background


In 2011, at the age of 18, Lee was studying physical education in his college in Busan. It was at that time he started developing interest in Kabaddi. He later joined the South Korean national kabaddi team as a junior at Dong-eui University.


Debut


Jang Kun Lee played one of his first professional games at the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, where he was able to win a bronze medal with the national team of Korea.


In 2014, Lee made his debut for Bengal Warriors in the debut season of Pro Kabaddi League.


Rise to Glory


Lee represented South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games held in his home country. The team won a bronze in the men’s kabaddi category. He was also a part of the team which won silver in the recent 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.


Lee played with Bengal Warriors since the inception of Pro Kabaddi League in India. He has been with the same team and has proved himself an important part of the squad.


The Korean raider has impeccable numbers in the PKL. He has played 90 matches for Bengal Warriors and has a total of 433 points in 910 raids. Lee has a raid percentage of 45.16%, with 14 super raids and 9 super 10s. Lee also holds the record for most number of raids by an overseas players in PKL.
